I am compelled to delurk for a moment to point out an item of possible
interest to the list members in England.
COMBUSTIBLE EDISON is playing at
Madame JoJo's (I assume you know where that is- I certainly don't)
Thursday, May 9th
7:30 p.m.
Admission: 5 pounds
This is not techno, ambient, jungle, nor even really electronic music,
but you can dance to it.
This is wonderful stuff inspired by the Martini Culture of post-WWII, pre-
Beatles, suburban America, not to mention Esquivel, Martin Denny and
Ferrante & Teichner. I have no idea whether this intentionally cheesy,
swingin' bachelor pad sound has any meaning to you Brits, but why not set
aside your fission chimps, plant your tongue firmly in (your) cheek and
go give it a try? Combustible Edison are true craftsmen of an all but
forgotten art, their music exudes a rare deliciousness and humor.
Anyone who does go- please drop me some email and let me know what you
thought of it (and how YOU would describe their sound), or post your
review to the list and let us all know. I'd be very interested to hear
your take on it. Thanks! Enjoy!
