Being new to IDM... late march.. and just as new to e-music in general, I need to build up a knowledge base of who's who. So far I've picked up FSOL's Lifeforms, Autechre's (how do you pronouce that? french?) basscad ep, and orb's adventures beyond the ultraworld. There aren't--by chance--any URLs anyone knows would brief me on more music? Or should I just start spending money :D ? sanks, --tom.-- -=---------------------------------------------------------------=- tholz@ucet.ufl.edu ... coming soon to a Merritt Island near you (!) -=---------------------------------------------------------------=-

I presume you've had a look around hyperreal.com? If not you should - links and info galore. Although things will be better still once Alan gets the reviews pages up again. But the idm archives should be useful reading, as should the results of the IDM polls of recent years. As personal suggestions, you should try and pick up: Autechre's "Amber", Aphex's Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Speedy J's "G-Spot" and WARP's Artificial Intelligence 2 comp as your next steps into the idm world. I'm sure others would have different ideas. Other than that, keep reading the list for a while - you'll get the hang of things.
