I agree that it seems that some artists tend to fill albums up with certain songs that you think no one must like, but there are always those that consider that awful track their favorite. (anyone like Mr. Angry from In Pine Effect?) Anyway, I think most of the music-purchasing public would agree with me when I say if I had to make the choice between a 40 minute album and a 70 minute album with 30 minutes of out-takes and filler, I would always ALWAYS choose the 70 minute album. I would rather have all the material than knowing there is a lot that was edited by men in suits. Andrew

You're probably in the majority. I tend to agree with what Greg said earlier. There is a real art to making a complete ALBUM that seems to be largely neglected these days. In fact, I can't think of any record in this genre that really flows and makes sense as an entire album. Orbital 2 comes close, but the last couple of tracks sound like an afterthought to me.

Halcyon + On + On an afterthought? Blasphemy! Other complete albums in the genre: T Power - The Self Evident Truth of an Intuitive Mind, Richard H Kirk - Virtual State, William Orbit - Strange Cargo III, the KLF - Chill Out. C. -- cspot@hyperreal.com (Chris.Hilker)

From what I understand about the LFO "Advance" album, it wasn't men in suits sifting through 30 minutes of filler, but rather two men in bright coloured shirts and pointy hats sifting through countless hours of DAT tapes trying to find "the right tracks." This process took around 2 years. (note, I am just hypothesizing here) But was it worth it? I think it's a great album...50 minutes of electronic bliss. Didn't sound like there was any filler... ____ __,--- --.__ ,- ; . This may be true (none come to mind without going through my collection and thinking about it), but there are a number of artists who are quite good at releasing EPs that flow and compliment from track to track. Beaumont Hannant, u-ziq/Tusken Raiders, Autechre/Gescom, and AFX (more HAB than anything else) are some of those. Upon second thought, Hannant and Global Comm. seem to do well at making entire albums that flow as well. Andrew
