Holland's top selling band 2 Unlimited to split
AMSTERDAM (Reuter) - Two months after British pop group Take
That split up, teenage music fans suffered another loss Wednesday
as the most succesful duo in Dutch pop history, 2 Unlimited,
decided to call it quits.
Five years ago, wheelclamp attendant Anita Doth and bartender
Ray Slijngaard were catapulted into a career as techno-house
artists, which brought them 150 gold and platinum records from all
over the globe.
But when their contract with Belgian record company Byte
International expires in May, the two artists will be going their
separate ways.
``Anita and Ray will be pursuing their own plans and artistic
careers,'' Byte said in a statement.
The duo have sold 15 million records over the past five years.
In the Netherlands alone, every one of their 13 hits was a top 10
in the charts.
Their most succesful release was the 1993 song No Limit, which
topped the music charts in 35 countries, including Britain where it
hogged the number one spot for six weeks.
Their music, which was released simultaneously in 60 countries,
was among the first to combine a pulsating techno-beat with rap and
melodic singing.
