(idm) DJ Tactics for beginners

Apologies for the crosspost... Thank you for all of the input I have gotten so far on how to get started! Now, I have a BIG question: How in the hell can I keep up w/ getting all of the music? I live in an ultra shotty part of the country for getting music... I see lots of artists talked about on the idm list (i keep up pretty well w/ ambient artists) and I do not have the means to 1) hear these artists and 2) buy these recordings. Soooo - I need a good DJ pool. I have seen only one, but it didn't really grab my attention. I need to find someone I can trust, who can gather a bunch of good stuff for me, and then I pay them a flat monthly fee... I realize this may be kinda naive, but I am desperate for good tunage. I feel that my personal listening collection wouldn't do much for the live DJ sets... Anyway, anyone who can offer help to a beginner, please let me know. I'd like to teach the morons around here what dance music can be like... (the big club here plays C+C Music Factory, KMFDM, KLF, and Meatbeat and calls it "cutting edge"). I just got sick of going to clubs and listening to crap, so... here I am. {ramble, ramble, ramble} Well, thanks for your time! gor

Hmmmm...imho..dont go for a record pool...99.99% of the time these companies are created for the most part...to get a few good tracks to you every month...along with about 20 or 30 not so good ones...its a fineline to draw to determine whether its worth it...but there are easier ways.

The city which I live in used to have a grrrrrrreat record shop (the Temple of Sound hi Q&N:) but it had to close...all us dj's here in Victoria were stuck...but there's still the old standby. Go and find or subscribe to these -> DJ, Mixmag and Muzik magazines. They dont have a looooooot of info..but what you do is this, get to know some of the reviewers names...write them down..and write down the tracks they suggest...then..call up any record shop in the area..Im sure theyre more than eager to help...and ask them about what you're interested in. They can either...get it for you..or at least put together a package for you..and voila. It WILL be better than any record pool Ive ever found. Then just when its time to get more trax...you get the new mags..look for those particular reviewers...(if you liked the stuff they suggested) and go with it... Its quite a learning experience..but more often than not...you learn to identify with some of those reviewers writing styles, and can determine whether you like a track on that. Sometimes you'll get a dud...but for the most part...you'll at least get a track that for sure someone else will be interested in..and that record shop you've been spending yer cash with, will prolly be more than glad to find them for you.
