However, trip hop is now a viable musical category, and should be given
its own group,

I would say it was pretty accurate
although blunted beats seems equally apposite
Wide enough? I just spent a day wading though 1,200 trip hop titles
in a German shop last week
there's trip-hop bursting out all over europe even in france where
they're usually behind ...
I think it's becoming another industry headache ... lots of
anonymous but cool records
that sell a few thousand without generating superstars of the
future ... that's why they'd
like to replace it with Brit Hop ( don't even ask! )

I still think Intelligent dance Music is a misnomer for the stuff
discussed here
seeing as most of is never played except in the chill out
if warp / r&s / rephlex / clear / reflective / ART / etc =
intelligent techno
then ninja / mowax / pork / skint / pussyfootetc = intelligent hip-hop
Precious Materials / Spymania / M-Jazz / Metalheads / Good Looking
etc = intelligent jungle
lets have forums for all of these!
