first, i would like to announce my return to the list (like any of you even missed me...) it's good to see most of you again, and if you want to get a hold of me for any reason, my new email address is cameron@imagina.com is everyone ok? i think i detected some serious notes of hostility upon re-entry. is there something bad going around on this list? mad cow disease? (not to imply that it is strictly brit, i just like that term. mad cow disease. mad cow disease. wheeee!) chill folks, fools are fools and this _is_ the internet. i have a stack of records i haven't really seen mentioned on here, so i'll take care of it... howie b music for babies polydor i nearly wet my pants when i heard this, unbelievably excellent ambient mellow funk. i chilled, i wept, i danced in my living room. actually, i only chilled, but i did reccomend it to everyone i know, because this is one of those records that has a sound for everyone. top-notch. pp006 pure plastic snap shot mark broom created a loverly detroit house style hybrid record with his trademark sound. i go apeshit for anything that comes out of the uxb studios, and would appriciate _any_ information on other releases that other list members enjoy. ifach, uxb, pure plastic, rewired... the english interpretations of detroit mentalities. bones 003 audio quest ep no bones records this is my first experience with no bones, and it's not bad, the tracks are fairly short, kinda moody, but all upbeat (123-126) and cool but not entirely memorable. distributed by kudos, so it's got to be good. muslimgauze bandit queen ep two tracks of what you would expect from muslimgauze, but featuring a out-of-body minimalist panasonic remix. one for the more adventurous, willing to go deepah. pork 029 bullitnuts feathered up/piping one of the most infectious thickass basslines i have had the pleasue of enduring in a while. lowbeat, fat, and deep. pork is a pretty cool label, for those who don't already know. hol 1 fretless azm holistic records london fretless azm is jazzy. the bside works a triplet swing pattern, so it won't mix with most of that stuff your buying. however, mega-rhodes solos and solid grooves. play this next to those GFQ records on clear. more balls than most asidjazz records. fretless azm also has a 2x10" out somewhere that i couldn't afford to pick up. i like this kind of stuff. tlx 6 nicolette we never know mercury if you like nicolette's voice, a billie holliday impersonation if there ever was one, that you will like this record. if you like plaid (and i know you do, because a days worth of list mail is guaranteed to contain blackdog/plaid/balil etc. discussions), alec empire, roni size, or future/past, they did the remixes, but beware, she sings on all of them. i don't mind her voice, but it is a spice, not a staple, and remixes of this caliber are what keeps this record interesting. desciptions? it's what you would expect from the remixers. quirky, low-fi agressive, junglish, and deep, in that order. db 40 kirlian chicken wings and beef fried rice disko b kirilian impressed the shit outta me with his ep on sahko. judging from this record cover, you may never guess that this is the same kirlian. bruce lee kung foo graphics on a very red and attention-grabbing sleeve, this is no indication for the deep, thick, pulsating rhythms that drip over this album. loads of analogue textures, a thickass hip-hop styled number, this shit is the bomb. abe duque creates sonic textures beyond your average structure. the sounds creep up on you. the feeling is deep, hard and big. (wasn't that an aztec camera song?) probably my favorite record so far this year. if anyone has more info on kirlian or other abe duque projects, get in touch with me. please. as some final notes, the howie b mix of bjork is the best bjork mix since sabres slowed down and dubbed out "one day", everything on the earth label slams, (and if you liked the melting pot on earth, chase down the melting pot on 10 denk winston hazel my MAN!), the twig bud is nice (baby ford jazzy), the carl craig mix of s-express' "theme" was a disapointment, and the new heights of abraham on pork is pretty good. has anyone heard: the new conemelt album, em:t 0096 (lucid dreaming with celia green), new outcasts (house-boomer richard brown), or russ gabriels audio spectrum (on soma)? on now lush scar i heard the new lush on the radio the other day (first time i listened to the radio in a coupla years) what's the story? when did they evolve into elastica? if lush ripped elastica, and elastica ripped wire, who will rip lush, and will wire ever be properly recognized? welcome back d how was new yawk? did you meet abe? ============================================================================ cameron bowden cameron@imagina.com blacksmith on the anvil in your ear ____________________________________________________________________________
