this was clearly not an advert you moron. and the analogy refers to people who are(were) the best(landmarks) in their field. draw your own conclusion.

How about the "out of character for g303, really rather distateful one"?

Calling someone a "moron" is simply Not On. And it was hype, pure and simple. Hype is certainly a form of advert ...

My own conclusion is that Chick Corea and Prince (save for "Gett Off" [sic]) are utter wank rubbish. "best" is a subjective experience, y'know?

I see nothing in the previous paragraph to cause you to tell him to "fuck off" (however you choose to spell it) in a public forum. Andrew/Ren8sance writes:

See above. Put a sock in it.

I thought he was taking the piss out of a big bag of wind. (An oftentimes extremely sarcastic and condescending bag of wind too, I might add.)

Oh noooo, I guess because I think TAFKA Prince is mostly rubbish with an occasional good track that I must be a narrow-minded heathen who doesn't recognize his true genius. Boo hoo. I consider it far more narrow-minded to ignore the fact that music is a *SUBJECTIVE* experience that's completely different from one person to the next, based on their framework, their context, and the neurons firing in their brains. THAT is why "THIS IS THE FOOKIN' GREATEST MAAAAAN" rings the Bullshit Detectors, my friends. Remember: The term "Greatest" only applies as far as the end of my fist. - Greg

When a guy half way across the world whom you've never met can make music that you and thousands of other people love, its clear that "great music" is something that extends far beyond the end of your fist. That statement is an insult to all musicians.

*Strikes palm to forehead* What the heck does the term "great music" have to do with what I said? Since you didn't get it, I'll repeat: Music is a SUBJECTIVE experience, perhaps *the* most subjective experience there is, alongside art appreciation. :-) If you, Arjun, say "The Partridge Family Album is the GREATEST ALBUM EVER RELEASED BY ANY LABEL", that use of the word "greatest" extends no further than my fist. And similarly, *my* use of the word "greatest" extends no further than *your* fist. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the term "great music". In short, let's keep the hyperbole to a minimum and get on with it. Enough of this non-thread ... - Greg

the above sentence really *is* cause for some serious abuse, but... What is disturbing is that several (hundred?) people despite probably having read all of rephlex posts, managed to misinterpret what the post had to say in the most profoundly frustrating and saddening fashion. rephlex has subsequently elaborated on the reasons for the original post and that post just about covered the reasons why I have stuck my neck out too, something I vowed never to do publicly since joining warp for fear of misinterpretation by people who don't have the whole picture. but i find it hard to bottle it in sometimes. g.
