In case anyone is interested and have not checked this out already, there is a pretty good history of electro on the Streetsound page: http://streetsound.clever.net/rap/rapelectro79.html I have been in retro mode for a while now. If anyone has any good electro recommendations that are not on the above web page Please let me know. I have many of the essentials such as : Computer World/Numbers Al-Naafiysh (Hashim) Rockit (Herbie) Clear (Cybotron) Planet Rock (Afrika Bambaata) Scorpio (Grandmaster Flash) Confusion beats (NewOrder) In full effect (Mantronix) other suggestions? I Need more!! Also, does anyone know anything about the Kingsize Crew from Connecticut that the Streetsound web page speaks of? thanks, jon

Jedi Knights - New School Science. And only the CD has (among all the other goodies strangely not on the 2x12") the long-deleted Clear Records classic "Noddy Holder", for all you vinyl-only purists. V/A - Origins of a Sound (Submerge). I've seen the Light - 'nuff said... The Advent - "Spaceism". A track on the _Future Techno Innovators_ comp: in fact the only one I've heard from the Advent, but certainly made me drool for more... ERkki TampHexster, pHinland trerra@uta.fi

So after all the responses I got (thanks everyone who replied), I could compile a pretty damn good list of electro labels and discographies and even some cool interview links. Is this redundant or would people care to have me post it? -robot

Are these Street Sounds (Electro, Best of...) and Mastersounds comps. released on vinyl as well? If so, are they relatively available or long out of print?

Is this on DC/Electron/Vinyl Solution? Or another label? Never even heard of this one, but it sounds dope. Again, out of print or still hanging around? Everyone else beat me to the punch (thanx to Andrew for the mega-list) but I can't recommend these highly enough - Anthony Rother, Drexciya, K-werk. Those are my big three, along with these labels - Electron Industries, Interdimensional Transmissions, Clear (sometimes), and some of the stuff on the new 21/22 label (Cron 12" specifically). All in all, there's some amazing electro out there, and some really sub-par formulaic stuff as well. But you could say that about any genre, I s'pose. It just seems particularly easy to pull off bad electro. Last plea: anyone know of a net source for the Anthony Rother "Sex W/ Machines" LP on Kanzlerant? Been after this one for months, Modern or Bent Crayon can't score it. ____________________________________ Brock Phillips - bphil@email.unc.edu WXYC 89.3 FM The New Science Experience Tune in every Sunday night 10-12 AM EST http://www.wxyc.org for live RA broadcast Promos, demos, etc. welcome for submission Email for postal address and details... Tracklisting: B+ - B-Beat Classic (Vocal) Levi 167 - Something Fresh To Swing To (Instrumental) Fantasy Three - It's Your Rock (Instrumental) Rock Master Scott & The Dynamic 3 - It's Life (You Gotta Think Twice) MC Craig G - Shout (Rap) Steady B - Just Call Us Def (Instrumental) Hi-Fidelity Three feat. Sarah Dash - Never Satisfied Disco Four - Throwdown (Instrumental) 2-3 MC's - Triple Threat (Radio Edit) Ultra Magnetic MC's - Funky (Instrumental) Rammelzee Vs. K.Rob - Beat Bop (Full Version) It's very messy and dirty compared to the electro stuff that preceded it, but, surprise surprise, I'd say that's a good thing. I found the whole CD not only wicked, but inspiring. Michael ____________________________________________ "Also, he has automatic evasion devices" http://www.vuw.ac.nz/~michael/jj.html

I thought the electro fans on the list might be interested to know that Brendan at Interdimensional Transmissions/Star 67 is putting another compilation together. -=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=--=-=- (Forwarded message) Viewlexx is run by I-F, who also helped run all the Bunker associated labels. If your into Electro in the vein of Gigolo stuff, I HIGHLY reccomend you check out the Bunker labels (if you arent already a fan by now!!!). But the main problem is that most are out of print, but Brendan Gillen (Star 67's owner) is compiling a compilation series of all the BEST tracks on those labels!!! I cannot -=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
