Here is the final list for the IDM top 10 releases of 1999 (in no particular order). Plaid - Rest Proof Clockwork (Warp) Monolake - Interstate (m/l Imbalance) SND - Makesnd Cassette (Mille Plateaux) Autechre - EP 7 (Warp) Various Artists - Ishemic Folks (Schematic) Various Artists - Dated (Toshoklabs) Solvent - Solvently One Listens (Suction) Dettinger - Intershop (Kompakt) Kit Clayton - Nek Salanet (~Scape) Pole - LP 2 (Kiff/ Matador) Poll Trivia: Plaid's release managed to clock in the most number of votes, closely followed by Monolake, however all the other releases on the list polled fairly evenly. Poll Faq: This list reflects the top 10 favourite releases of 1999 by all those sent in their votes. Therefore it only represents the most popular releases for this population and should not be taken as a comprehensive IDM top 10. However I do consider this to be fairly close to a definitive top 10 IDM list for 1999 - It is consequently reflected by the depth and variety of these chosen releases. Thank you very much to the following listmembers who sent in their top 10's: Lance@Inaudible, Andrew Duke@Cognition, Pietro (Audio-Nimbus), Dan@Madvision,Thad, Craig, Dave Colbran, Matt Aeotaku, James Roberts, Dave Segal, JK, Tonee, Mully, Matthew James, Jarmo Niinisalo, John @Aural Industries, James Macpherson, Henrik Stromberg, Aronne, Irene McC, Marsel, Reimie, Todd Swiss, Kurt B Pruenner, Timo Petman, Rob Lim, Michael Upton, Roy-G-Biv, Peter Hollo, Jussi.Saarelainen, Glenn Bach, Matthais Hoys, Jeff Klein, Bill VanLoo,Tim Zeigler, Tim Koch (Thug), Col, Greg Davis, Alan R Lucas, Oliver Moreau, Drusca, DipthonG, Joel. Best regards for 2000. Maybe we'll do another one next year. I would like to emphasize this point; in fact, none of the releases on my list were represented on the final list (ah, the tyranny of democracy). My ballot was as follows: Lithops "Blasmusik/Intendo" 7" (Robot) David Maranha _Piano Suspenso_ CD (Sonoris) Pure "The End of Vinyl" 3" CD (Mego) Seiji Nagai + [alpha] _Electronic Noise Improvisation 1999_ (Doppelganger) Spring Heel Jack "The Sound of Music" (Tugboat) Various Artists _I'm So Bored with the USA_ LP (Diskono) Bionaut _Friends_ CD (EMI/Harvest/Eat Raw) Atsushi Tominga "056" 7" (Meeuw Muzak) Tarkatak "Skarva/Oroa" 7" (Drone Records) Sack + Blumm CD (Tom) Since then, I acquired the Cube & Sphere 12" that came out last year (Separator 4 or something of the sort)- it probably should displace the Sack & Blumm (which is a source of some ambivalence to me), but whatever. -rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Nor did any of my top 10 make the IDM-l's most popular selections. From this I take some minor satisfaction. Below are my tops (pretty arbitrary, really; another 30-40 releases could've made it on any other given day). 01 Datach'i- 10110101 (rec+play) (Caipirinha) 02 Depth Charge- Lust (DC) 03 Hidenobu Ito- Bedroom In The Cage (NS-COM) 04 Crank- Wanton Phenomena (Mille Plateaux) 05 Neina- Formed Verse (Mille Plateaux) 06 Eardrum- Last Light (Leaf) 07 Req- Daily Beats series (Skint) 08 Khan- Blue Pool (Super-8) 09 Riow Arai- Mind Edit (Soup Disk) 10 Frank Bretschneider- Rand (Mille Plateaux) David Segal Managing Editor/Alternative Press Reviews/BPM/Reissue Redux Secret Ions on WCSB Thursdays 9-11PM EST www.wcsb.org np: Diggin' In The Crates- s/t (Tommy Boy) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

There are a lot of very good releases that did not make it into the top 10 '99 poll. That's why this is only a top 10 list, not a top 20 or 50. It is to highlight the 10 most voted for releases from all who did so. In fact Aspen's releases on Involve just missed out on being included. It would have been the most obscure release on the list, coming from New Zealand. The obvious reason why none of your voted releases made the top 10 was that no one else really sent in any significant votes for any of them. But even though your votes may have been outliers, I appreciate them anyway.
