You English bastards! You should count your damn blessings every day! The line up just about makes me want to cut my ear off. And what do we poor Americans have? Moby and Keoki...christ. Every time I hear you guys talking "Oh yeah I went and saw Squarepusher the other night and U-ziq played live the other day and RDJ spun an awesome set..." I want to rip my eyelids off. -Fresh

Hi all, Been lurking round here for a while - thought it was time to emerge from the shadows and make (some of) you jealous be telling you about a wicked night out I had last night... STEALTH - NinjaTune @ Blue Note, London 29th March 1996 ======================================================= Line Up: ------- Coldcut DJ Food Funky Porcini Luke Vibert Kruder & Dorfmeister The Matt Black Bitch (?) + ...? Ninja Tune and Coldcut really are supplying the widest beats... Since the JDJ came out, we've been listening to the Kiss shows and loving it. With Luke Vibert (Wagon Christ) guesting, just had to go to this, even tho it was Thursday night with work on friday. So what dya get for yer fiver? 3 floors this time at the Blue Note. Coldcut were doing the stuff in the main room with wacky Hex visuals - computer graphics mingled with footage of Pan's People from 70's Top of the Pops from what we could work out! Phat jazzy beats and hiphop. Ventured to the top floor with the comfy cushions and a familiar smell hanging in the air. I think it was the "Matt Black Bitch" (thats what the list said!) dropping some lovely drum'n'bass which at times sounded like classic easy listening with break- beats, and even some 303's too - first time I've heard 303's on a D'n'B toon and it was lovely. We knew Luke Vibert was on at 11 in the middle room, and had to check this out. If anyone was there - what the fuck was he playing?!? Started off sounding like thrashy funk - the guitars were thrashing but the beat was funky. Luke was talking to the guy sat next to him while skinning up and occasionally pressing start on the decks... At one point he was just chatting and smoking and just slapped his hand on the record, did a couple of scratches and carried on talking. Laid back or what?! Well, the tunes just got weirder here on in. Ever heard the funky sitar version of Shirley Basseys version of "Come on baby light my fire"? Nice! The funky sitar stuff just kept coming - top stuff! God knows what this stuff is - if anyone does, let me know. There was also a couple of Wagon Christ numbers chucked in and that gorgeous funk version of 2001. Headed back downstairs to hear DJ Food dropping more excellent d'n'b and some full-on jungle. All in all an excellent night - the widest beats in London. OnNow: Luke Vibert - Plug 3 (Cheers Tom!) Seeya. -- _________________________________________ Dave (banda01@ingres.com) :::: Software Engineer, Media Junky ||| :::: Music Lover & Hedonist. c-@@ :: Views expressed are mine \ > : and not my employers. \_^-- _________________________________________
