Bear with the following ramblings - Autechre makes me emotional...I offer no coherent thoughts, nor should any be expected... I don't even know where to begin... Notwithstanding the fact that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I am deeply disturbed by the above comments. I find it most difficult to filter how I feel about Autechre through clumsy words, but I shall try. Often I find I am scarcely able to keep myself from weeping openly or laughing out loud when I hear Autechre. The sheer joy it brings is almost painful. In my opinion, Sean Booth and Rob Brown are hands-down two or the most beautiful people walking the earth. You cannot make music like they do and not be beautiful. There are times when I listen to some of their work and I find myself thinking that they can't possibly be human - sometimes it seems as if such beauty is the province solely of the gods. Autechre has been the catalyst for several hardcore philosophical/spiritual discussions between my friends and I. For example, I'm am abso-fucking-lutely floored by the fact that "Foil" or "Garbagemx36", or "444" (etc...yadda, yadda, yadda...) were hatched within somebody's mind! The fact that a human being was capable of creating such beauty boggles me... I wonder if they are aware of what they've created? I wonder if they know the extent of their beauty? Is it just a song with a cool beat or is it a work of art? I'm rambling I know...I can't really express what I mean right now. Suffice it to say that Sean Booth and Rob Brown are without any doubt two of the most fucking brilliant musicians I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. This thing, this Autechre, is a thing of incredible, unsurpassed beauty. This thing, this Autechre, is living breathing art. This thing, this Autechre is a source of tremendous happiness for me. And what else matters? So, if anybody knows them or is fortunate enough to meet them, let them know that there is a fellow in Canada that constantly thanks his lucky stars that they exist. Oh, and tell them I'll one day ask them to remix MY album!!! ;) Jeff, I apologize if it seems as if I'm being rude or intolerant - such is not my intent. I merely felt an intense need to state how happy Autechre makes me. Here endeth the lesson. I'm glad somebody's standing up for them. Like you, Autechre has a huge effect on me emotionally, and I really had no idea how to put it into words, so it's nice that someone else did. I don't know what it is that their music does to me, but I'm hoping they never stop. I beleive it was somebody on this list who described Autechre's music the best way I've ever heard: It's like God is whispering in your ears and gently massaging your mind (or something like that). I fell in love with Autechre the first time I heard "Chatter" on the Artificial Intelligence II compilation (my first introduction to IDM and electronic music in general), and since then have been trying to find as much of their music as possible (not easy where I live), but haven't heard Garbage or 444 yet. With Incunabula and Amber, I loved them both the first time I heard them, and really consider each album as a whole, rather than as individual songs. Every time I listen to these two albums, they seem fresh, as though they're brand new and I haven't heard them before, but each time I get more out of them. The first time I listened to Amber, my reaction was to run around the house, yell, laugh, cry, and jump around trying to let out those all the emotions. The only other thing I can compare it to is when I first fell in love. Unfortunately, Tri Repetae is a bit more difficult to get into. Some of the songs are incredible, but some of the song's percussion is too "in your face". The songs don't have the beauty expressed in their other albums, although technically they are outstanding. I can't get as emotionally involved in this one.

The thing that cheezes me off most about electronic music is that some of it's fans want to share it with the world. I can't tell you how many WHY ISN'T TECHNO POPULAR IN THE US? discussions I've seen on Usenet. I enjoy the anonymity that comes along with listening to electronica. I relish in the odd stares I receive from people whenever I answer 'The Orb' to their question 'What's your favorite music group?" Techno, and for the sake of this discussion, Autechre, serves as sort of a private soundtrack for my life. It's *my* music, not anyone else's, and no one can take it away from me. I'm relieved that some of my favorite music artists such as Massive Attack, Tricky, The Orb, AFX, Autechre and They Might Be Giants and others haven't made it big in the States. The less rambling by mainstream music magazines, MTV cultural pundits, and high school students, the better. Sure, it's somewhat selfish, but I think this music is worth it. Booth/Brown create some of the most romantic music I've ever heard. '444,' 'doctrine,' 'windwind,' 'silverside,' 'vltermx,' and 'nine' are wonderfully orchestrated tunes. 'basscadet,' 'teartear,' and 'bad vilbel,' are wonderfully irritating tunes. everything else represents a unique range of emotions from ecstatic [scepe] to horny [lowride] to angry [teartear]. The release of _tri repetae_ has a special signifigance to me. I'm going through the dullest time of my life right now, and I find _tri repetae_ to be just that, dull. but, it's still good. there's a science to the dullness. [eutow is the only real exception for me]. Hopefully, after finals, things won't be as dull as they are now. But there will be plenty of reminicing when I listen to _tri repetae_, just as I think of the night I met my first girlfriend whenever I hear 'perpetual dawn', or high school prom whenever i pop in danny tenaglia's 'hard and soul,' my last night in new orleans as a teenager when nirvana's 'come as you are' appears on the radio, to my first rave whenever i hear 'chime.' my list is endless, and _tri repetae_ is a welcome addition. .grant.h.horne .http://delta.is.tcu.edu/~ghhorne/ .c/pach.autechre

My Autechre epiphany: I've got a drum machine apart in bits on the dining room table, I'm singing my eyebrows with a soldering iron, and the last track from 'Garbage' is playing. Finally get the machine put back together, and realize I've accidentally hit repeat and listened to the same track for an hour and a half. If you don't like it, buy something else. I won't diss you for it. Whoops.. sorry, I'm not good with track names. Like I said, I think of their albums as a whole, rather than individual songs. I just tend to think of that as the last part of Incunabula. Pretty stupid really, since that's what I was listening to when I started the message.

It's Autechre confession time! I fell in love with them with "Crystel" on Artificial Intelligence I and that's couple of tracks earlier than "The Egg" ;) Anyway, I listened after that to Incubula and was dissapointed and bought bytes instead..
