I bought two brand new 1200's last fall for $369 each from "The Good
Guys" in San Diego. They are normally listed by "The Good Guys" and "Circuit
City" here in Southern California for $399 but Circuit City's manager offered
to sell two for $369 each, and said that this was an offer that most
Circuit City audio managers would match. I don't know if they exist
where you live, but it's a pretty major chain of electronics stores
at least on the West Coast. Decent needles designed for reverse
cueing (make sure they are specifically designed for that if you
intend to DJ) will run about $60 a piece.
Buying used is still the best bet, but they have high resale value and
I decided I'd just spend the extra $200-$300 to get brand new ones,
eliminate the hassle of searching for used ones, and to have a
warranty, etc.
As far as mail order I don't know for sure but I think $400 is probably
very realistic, and you could maybe do better with some research.
