Artis the Spoonman is a Seattle local street artist. He's the one on Pearl Jam's "Spoonman," although I haven't heard that track. Since Soundgarden is a Seattle band, I would assume that "Superunknown" is also Artis. I doubt that the NY spoonman is the same, unless Artis has visited there in his new-found "fame." Artis has a solo CD out with backing support from another local Seattle band (who are actually very good) - Sadhappy. In addition to street performances, Artis has also played Bumberdrum at Bumbershoot, and I'm sure a lot of the other concerts like Lallapaloosa (I suppose). I have no idea about Underworld. They could have sampled any of the above or even convinced Artis to play with them if they've been to Seattle.

The spoonman that soundgarden and pearl jam referred to did a US tour last year as a supporting act for MC 900 FT JESUS and Consolidated. Maybe the Underworlders caught that show and were intrigued by the utensil madness. -->-Lance--- mclance@en.com
