Various SYSTEM EP 1 Terraform Records-Denver, Colorado http://www.terraform.net TF 001 What a shock! All this Denver bashing was completely unjustified when you give this 12'' a go on your decks. An eclectic and diverse mix of some underground Denver artists(led by local DJ John Chamie). My favorites for IDM-like musik was 'rain eternal'(by Escape Artist), with its uplifting nature about it, highly melodic, and vocal textures blending beautifully--and 'audity'(by Red Shift), which is the best interpretation of a Black Dog stylee of warm analog grooves, and the drums are not too pristine in the mix, check out the middle of the track, and you'll see what I mean. 'detonator'(by Ether) is some old-school techno groovy/funkiness, ala 1992, and probably the best sounding track on the 12. It has a "Chemical Brothers meets Hardfloor" flare to it with a guitar-type sample, and that Hardfloor drum buildup/breakdown. The ambient track on the flip is whacky atmospheric fun, and highly mixable in an experimental set. Right On! The sound of I.D.M. Denver is here, and it can't be reasoned with! A label i'll definitely consider recording for. Oh, I also noticed that they pressed this 12 through Europadisk, also a good vinyl presser. No dodgy pressing here, people.(are you listening National Sound in Detroit?????) Derek Jordan
