Well, I picked up the new Hyperballad CD5 because there is a new Hannant
remix on it (different than the two from the It's Oh So Quiet CD singles).
Tracks below, comment follows:
1 radio edit
2 howie b mix
3 LFO mix
4 Fluke mix
5 Outcast productions (Hannant and Richard Brown) mix
6 Todd Terry mix
The best mixes, interestingly enough, are the howie b and the fluke. They
are the most interesting, turning the song into an actual new version, rather
than placing vocals over a boring loop, which is the case for LFO. The
entire LFO track is the same beat, same 3 notes (or is it two?). It doesn't
make me want to go out and get the album. The Hannant mix is not as good as
I would have liked, either. There is nothing ear-catching about it (not the
beat, not the tunes) and pretty ignorable. I had to listen a few times to
comment on it because it breezed right by while I was concentrating on other
things. The Todd Terry mix makes me roll my eyes and hold my stomach. I am
getting sick and tired of the same old stupid drum combination: bass bass
low snare high snare bass bla bla bla with the cymbal beating on every
measure, and maybe a synthesized clap here and there. This is laid over pop
tracks ad nauseum when they want a "dance" mix: Sting, Duran Duran, U2 and
the list goes ONandONandON. Anyway, so goes my opinion. The other Bjork
single does not have any remixes by the above artists, or any other artists I
am interested in. I would like to tell you who they were, but I've forgotten
already.
Andrew.
