There are a few of us that do actually play 'idm' live. The only problem with actually playing live is that the equipment that can be programmed 'live' can be very limited. Most digital gear is not full hands on. Of course, older Roland gear can be programmed/reprogrammed live. In Prototype 909 we leave the drum machines in 'write' mode, the same patterns looping. This means we record and erase parts oon the fly. Some analog synths have on-board sequencers that can be triggered by other instruments. To do this you must first program a sequence in the synth and then program a trigger track ex.in an 808. To change do a new sequence you must turn the synth on and off and start the process again-all while the all the ohter instruments are playing. Cueing in heads phones and then bringing it up in the mix. Before I go any further with this my point is- there are artists that do play 'live' and if you haven't seen this done in person you should. I am so busy when we play that I rarely get a chance to look up. its like watching someone in the studio trying to make one track into 10 in half an hour without stopping. Some 'live' artist to check out- KIRLIAN-now on tour in Germany PANASONIC-coming to NYC in April-email me for their dates PROTOTYPE 909-we are booked thru July-email me for dates DUBTRIBE-Their records are boring but they are amazing live SPACE TIME-Great records but better live SYNAPSE-NYc electro DJ HYPERACTIVE-Chicago acid MARK VERBOS-mid-west acid Any others i missed? I can't wait to see AUTECRE next month. Has anyone seen FREAKY CHAKRA live? i wonder how much of his show is sequenced ahead of time. Also RABBIT IN THE MOON? Dietrich
