I was looking for information about a band called Rinneradio, from Helsinki, who are playing a gig here in Texas w/ Psykosonik and Emergency Broadcast Network. I don't really care about Psykosonik and I've seen EBN, but if Rinneradio are cool, then I'm there. obidm...picked up The Full Immersion, Remixes vol. 1 on Swim w/ input from Gez Varley, Claude Young, Fred Giannelli, Mick Harris, Mark Gage, and Robin Rimbaud amongst others. The Rimbaud remix is under the name Trawl. Does anyone know if he's released other stuff under this name?? The cd is quite nice, lots of muted electronics, drony noises and floaty acid lines. Solid techno, but not crazy dancefloor stuff. peace john ________________________________________________________________________ The power of the dance is a dangerous power. Check the Rinneradio Home Page: http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~latvis/yhtyeet/rinne.html They've just released their new album here in Finland; I haven't heard it yet, but it's supposedly mix of jazz, ambient and breakbeat/jungle. Mmm, tres interesting, should I say...

FYI: Fred Giannelli's new album is now out on Sahko! More details to come on this channel, stay tuned... :) And another blatant & shameless commercial for everyone interested in our measly scene in pHinland: <http://www.basenet.net/~stevvi/articles/ffinscene>

[stuff deleted] Are they cool? Actually I don«t know at the moment. I«ve seen them play live multiple times, as I live in Helsinki too. Originally I liked them very much. Their second album «Joik« combined sample-heavy ambient-techno with great sax-playing and ethnic singing (by then-group-member Wimme Saari, check out his solo «Wimme«) in a way that sounds fresh even today. Now 2-3 albums later I«m not so convinced anymore. The songs rely more and more on repetitious beats and long synth-pads (what might have sounded great in «89, but not now!). It just sounds a little boring to me. Well, maybe I«m over-critical. They do have a great live setup: very good lights and clean sound (too clean actually IMHO :) Trance-y ambient-techno with slow sax-melodies, with a little trip-hop and jungle thrown in. That«s the best description I can give about their current sound. They are often claimed to combine techno and jazz, but I don«t really hear that jazz anywhere. Teemu
