Hello, Detroits Kenny Larkin is signed for the MAYDAY X event in Dortmund/Germany this year. It's a pity, that he is a part of this comercial sell-out of the techno-rave-scene. This time the entrance cards cost $56 !!! People like him the alibi underground acts on this event next to people like 'mo money' Westbam. For all who don't know, Mayday (or Payday as we call it) is a part of the big LOW SPIRIT empire. Those Low Spirit Acts and DJ's are the big media stars, get all the press attention. Spinning DJ's f.e. have to sign, that they give up all rights of the recordings (TV) and they are allowed to use play different music to the pictures. So if Kenny doesn't watch out he will see himself playing Marusha's "Somewhere over the rainbow" somewhere, someday! Money, money, money..... Please don't go to MAYDAY and don't buy their records! Stop the sell-out! keep the scene alive! last time i checked it costs money to go to concert events. last time i checked you have to pay people to play concerts. last time i checked glastonberry tickets were pretty expensive. last time i checked it was an honor to play big festivals and concerts. last time i checked no one called orbital "sell outs" for playing big shows. last time i checked the american dream involves having a nice car & home. peter http://hyperreal.com/music/artists/face_on_mars

Hi DJT1000,
quoted 1 line Aw, shit, here we go with the "sell-out" thing.> Aw, shit, here we go with the "sell-out" thing.
I know, it?s the old discussion about commercialisation, about underground and overground.... but IMO it?s important to keep these thoughts alive, to evaluate what?s going on!
quoted 1 line I played Mayday 5 two years ago.> I played Mayday 5 two years ago.
I will take a look at my archive to see what the press wrote about it. Did you play at a good time? Did you play in the big main hall? Did you get enough press attention? Where you able to express yourself?
quoted 1 line It was dope. It was *the* biggest rave I've ever played to this day.> It was dope. It was *the* biggest rave I've ever played to this day.
Sure, the size and the show is very impressive. Thats very superficial. Well, alright, I am not a RAVER, I have been to two raves with a few thousand people and I realy prefer the small club scene with a good athmo.
quoted 1 line It put me on the map as an international DJ.> It put me on the map as an international DJ.
Really? How much gigs did you have in europe because of your mayday appearance? How much more records did you sell? (it?s hard to get your releases!) I am really sorry, that you have such a hard time in the US. I don?t know why. Is it because of all the media and the commercial orientation of everything? I know, that those DJ?s that are booked very often in germany like DJ Pierre, Richie Hawtin, John Auquaviva, The Stickman, Jeff Mills, Armando,..

Yeah, but at what "cost"? Surely the good thing about underground is that it has some sincerity. That clause Harald talks about, where they have to agree to have different music played to their visuals, should the TV ppl want it. Well that sounds very fucking sincere. l8tah

it has some sincerity. Not to mention the obvious appeal of a private club to which the general public is not invited, and which will close once the hoi polloi get wind of it... Matthew L.
