Wax Doctor is a mate of Alex Reece, and they produce similar sort of stuff. Alex Reece has just been given his own sub-label of Island, called (excitingly) 'Al's Records', which will be an outlet for him, Wax Doctor and Pym. The three of them collaborate quite a bit, eg: Wax Doctor and Alex Reece = Jazz Juice (Precious Materials) Alex Reece and Pym = Original Playboys (R&S) Wax Doctor's 'Atmospheric Funk' (Talkin Loud) is worth checking out, and he's also done two EPs for Metalheadz. Reece's stuff on Metalheadz is his best, especially 'Basic Principles' and 'Pulp Fiction'. Photek (Rupert Parkes) is the one to watch though. He's just signed a 5-album deal with Virgin, and been given his own sub-label, 'Science', which will put out whatever he feels like, including 'stuff with no beats at all'. His Photek label is excellent, volume 6 is out soon and it's wicked.
