One of the wonderful aspects of having a teenage girl staying with us is the crap she leaves laying around. The latest issue of 'Sassy' has an article by one of their staff who gets flown to London to meet with the Prodigy and go to a big rave (outdoors, cold, muddy). She hates the music, thinks the people at the rave can't dance, is really disgusted by all the people on E and Butyl Nitrate, thinks their fashion sense is icky. She says weird thing like 'techno was allegedly invented in Detroit by Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, where it became known as acid house.' and 'in England, they keep pushing the beats faster, sometimes as high as 135 bpm.' Laugh? I thought I'd die. I guess they were all out of clues to rent at Blockbuster that day. The whole magazine is a scream if you've never read it. Headlines like "As if there weren't enough white people in Sassy, we visit Copenhagen.' --------------------------------------------------------------------- Home Page: http://I.m.too.dumb.to.hack.html/~kent Kent Williams kent@inav.net (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

We get that dog-poo of a magazine at work. The Sassy girl idea of music is the "Lemon-Wedges," because the lead singer (sic) gives them the wetties. That have 'cute band' alerts - of course all the bands play pop-guitar music and have shag haircuts. I'd say if Sassy doesnt like techno it must be a good thang ;)

Yeah Evan Dando peed on my shoes back when they were good -- (i.e. before they figured out how to play their instruments and write pop songs). The local grungeola bar has a men's bog where you pee in something that looks like a bathtub ...

Yeah, but I get a very positive response from Jill's little friends with stuff like Chemical Brothers and Jake Slazenger. I hate for people to get such a negative impression of music without listening first. It's the English major in me -- y'know -- words matter ;-) Do watch out for the sporadic apperance of 'Dirt' which is sort of 'Sassy for Boys.' It is just the sort of idiosyncratic piss-take that's wasted on teenagers. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Home Page: http://I.m.too.dumb.to.hack.html/~kent Kent Williams kent@inav.net (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

one of my best friends used to write for Sassy. back in those days they were pretty subversive for a "teenage girl" magazine. (if THAT version of sassy had written about raves, it would have been Thumbs Up all the way.) then they got bought out by a big publisher and all the original staff was fired and the content was completely watered down. for more information (and a great article written by my friend) see: http://www.cyborganic.com/Hothouse/Perennials/Blair/blair1/sassy/sassy.html -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://www.cyborganic.com/bass-kittens/

actually, the "old" Sassy wrote an article on going to a british rave i think in 1992...and it was titled something along the lines of "my rave nightmare." i remember being very upset at the coverage at the time, though admittedly sassy was way way cooler back then. ____ Hug Your Waistline to the Bassline Tamara Palmer trance@netcom.com http://www.interverse.com/~tamara/righting.html Women Respond to Bass

To be fair, Sassy used to be a very good magazine, and a *frighteningly* good magazine when compared to what most other publishers were offering to that market (i.e., teenage girls). -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo)
