a few reviews of related interest, not totally current but recently picked up;
money mark on mo wax* the worst mowax in along time. the single is ok. but
even if you're a fan of the beastie boys that's all you need.
Dj Cam underground Vibes on Streetjazz ( a french label)
excellent avant hip hop. great scratching. in a mo wax vein but a little
smoother. very dreamy. played at xmas party even folks who only like the Dead
liked it.
which isn't to say that when you listen carefully there isn't a lot of hip
hop experiemnting going on. for instance on gangsta shit ( which is a mellow
tune with a jazzy piano) there is a whisper in the background, sounds like
"beat terrorist"
ambient systems vol one and two
on instinct.
terre thaemlitz --"trucker"
hands down the best track on either comp.
his other tune "Meditation of the mountain oyster".
also incredible, main reason its not in first place is i've heard the magic
of moufang before, deep space network "11 bars"
both subdub tracks are excellent.
facil track "same place" is great.
their other track so far has disppointed me "89-16".
not sure how ifeel about omicron, want to give it more time.
adham shaikh (this actually has more depth than the others)
mystery of science (only heard their first tarck)
seti
evolve now.
are too new agey for me. too like steve roach. i like steve. but we don't
need anyone else doing thin textures. they have no depth. sickly sweet
synthesizers.
this comp has so much promise. volume 1 is brilliantly programmed, even human
mesh dance which i am not crazy about fits in well with a good tune. enough
material for one great collection.
so thats =my take on ambient systems.
