Well, what can I say about this record. Even forgiving the poor quality of the record, all the tracks are minimal to the point of non-existent (apart from the steady 4/4 kick drum). The first release was much better but I don't think Maurizio and co. can justify putting out such crap. Yours robbed of 7 quid, Derek. I think this is done by purpose... I know, it sounds more like my old 4-track tape-deck... but somehow I also like it... it fits to this grey cold weather here... and sets a contrast to this high quality, high fidelity productions of people like Sven Vaeth, Cosmic Baby.

BTW, wich one is the Chain Reaction no.2 :) I might have 1 and 3 (Scion, Various Artists)...

Even if I don?t know #2, I wouldn?t say it?s crap. It?s already interesting because it sounds different as this normal crap. It?s not directly produced for the dancefloor. BTW, they don?t have to justify themself... nobody forced you to buy it! You must justify yourself to yourself. greetingz, Harald |===============================================| | * WWW -> http://rave.city.de/wicked | | = Ruhrarea, Detroit, Flyer, Tresor, Media...| +-----------------------------------------------+

I think this is perhaps *the* coolest Basic Channel/Maurizio-related record ever, and I like it even more than the dancefloor-friendlier _Emerge_ by Scion. You get seven beautiful cuts based around a certain "theme", but that "theme" morphs so subtly over the course of the record that it becomes very difficult to put your finger on it. Nevertheless, the tracks range from soundscapey beat-driven ambience to straight-up BC-style dance cuts, and the key word is *depth*. I will never know how these folks can make such mesmerising tracks that are at the same time so sparse. They truly surround you. Amazing. - Matthew "I grew up thinking that techno music is actually something that you can't imagine. That is techno at its best. If you hear something that you'd never expect to hear - that's techno. If you hear something that kind of sounds like you've heard it before, then it's not techno." - Jeff Mills

hmm, i haven't heard cr 1, but i have to disagree about this one... i like this release a lot, and it's pretty close to the rest of the basic channel stuff; in fact, for a good introduction to the basic channel sound, i'd rather recommend this record instead of the basic channel cd. 7 tracks, and the last ones on each side (esp. a3) are wonderful... just my .375 -- piece, p.
