Don't be too hard on Chapterhouse! Besides being one of the better shoe-gazey
bands of the time, "Pearl" (their 3rd single in 1990 or so) was fairly
widely praised at the time for taking shoegazing into dance-oriented
territory - When the Levee Breaks drum patterns and a definite dance feel.
Their singles around the time of their second album (Mesmerise, She's A
Vision, Beautiful) all had long dubby soundscape thingies on the B-sides.
While hardly earth-shattering, they were certainly exploring different
IDM-oriented styles (or bandwagon-jumping depending on your point of view).
The Global Communication remixes were another thing again and didn't bear
much resemblance to the original Blood Music tracks (which probably wasn't
that bad a thing really).
The point being they do have some IDM relevance even aside from the Global
remixes which they had sod all to do with anyway.
Which still doesn't answer einexile's question as to what they're doing now!
