Yep. Signed to Orbital's label, this is Bolland's first album since last
year's "Electronic Highway" on R&S Records. And the verdict? So far,
it's quite interesting. The last track, "Sugar is Sweeter" features
vocals by Jade 4 U from the Lords of Acid, and sounds quite industrial.
Other tracks are harder than hardcore, and the remaining few sound way
too much like digital Chemical Brothers (slow breaks, repetitive loops
of sound, cheese). My favorite is definitely the opening track, which
viciously steals an Art of Noise drumloop from "Close (To the Edit)" and
practically smothers it with layers of euphonious, hands in
the air, keyboard melodies. There' some humour ("There Can Only Be One"
features extensive sampling from The Highlander) and trendy sampling
(are television evangelists getting back into techno again?) In all, the
album feels pretty good.
So far I'd rate it a nice 8/10, but I've only had it for 9 hours. I
still want to let it sink in.
