Volume 1 was 'Claire' by IO (aka Patrick Pulsinger), a lovely jazzy downtempo
tune. It had remixes by Stasis and Mark Broom, I think. Volume 2 was David
Caron's 'Fantasy on a Fantasy', which I haven't got, and Volume 3 (with box) is
I think a Mark Broom production. The hip-hop ones are good too - Prunes, Olde
Scottish and the third one is Solo and Aura's 'Take Heed', a jazzy
drum'n'basser. Overall the series is pretty good IMO...
Some recommendations (proper reviews to follow):
Morgan Geist - Quadrilocular (Metamorphic): wicked Detroit-ish techno
Chaser - Sides Of Iron (Soma): Excellent, very unique, buy on sight
Jacob's Optical Stairway - Solar Feelings (R&S): pretty good spacey d&b
Chameleon - Links (Good Looking): Pritchard & Middleton, quality guaranteed
Picked up the following LPs today:
Black Dog - Parallel (GPR): At last! Wonderful stuff, classic tracks...
Gregory Fleckner Quintet - Monkey Boots (Clear)
The Advent - Elements Of Life (Internal)
Haven't had a lot of time to listen to these last two yet, but I've skimmed
through them. GFQ seems a bit disappointing on initial listening, but I'll have
to give it time. The Advent seems pretty cool, gorgeous pressing (from National
sound, where all the Detroit stuff is pressed) on quadruple vinyl. Strong
electro influence, very percussive and intricate...
Hope everyone had a top Christmas!
see ya
