I know this has been covered, but if you've not found this record let it be known that the 'Emotion' side (tracks 6-9 on the CD) may well be the ultimate headphuq suite for 1995. Starting out with 'Indigo' -- flip the channel changer and a voice says "I just smoke the best bud I can find." Then you're in dub territory with Mission Control. I know everyone uses NASA samples, but this works. "Tranquility ... Tranquility ... Tranquility ... we're breathing again." In perfect rhythm. Then comes a very woozy jungle number with wild pitchbend bass that builds up to Bugs Bunny dropping some human beat box. (God bless Mel Blanc). This is deep trip territory -- this piece captures perfectly the tweaked out helium feeling of peaking on acid. Then comes 'turqoise' with deep fretless bass, subtle metallic percussion and the sound of the bong bubbling. Pure bliss again. 'Amber' follows with roiling clouds of filtered noises and renegade snares. The CD has a nice, almost Orbish bonus track, but they played some cute mastering tricks with it. If you skip to track ten you get the track (starts with singing birds) but if you let the CD play off the end of track 9 you get 8 minutes of silence followed by some wanking around with a vocal sample "bu... out of butter" and various digital noises, for 10 minutes. Now I don't do drugs any more, and I don't recommend them to anyone -- they have nasty side effects, they're expensive, and you meet too many shady characters trying to acquire them. But what this disk does is perfectly capture an altered state of mind, and has no hangover or nasty aftertaste. Put the headphones on late at night and listen with your eyes closed ... Who/What is Voda? I just picked up the new Irresistible Force cd-s with a remix by said wiz. Wow. Great stuff - and what really bothers me is that the style is either one I've definitely heard before or it's extremely like it and I can't put my finger on it. I can't answer your Q, but I know she/he/they also did a remix of Coldcut's "Timber" from the excessively limited "Let Us Replay" 10" (The Let us replay 7" had the Takemura and Sakamoto remixes). It's the best remix on the 10", although i wouldn't know what to call the style, either. Kindof a chunky slow-jungle, or chunky midtempo inst hiphop with jungle in mind. Definitely chunky. Also, how is the "fish dances" CDS? "Nepalese Bliss" and its remixes blew my mind, although the album was a bit too self-similar to keep my interest for too long. Yes. That's the style. It brought to my mind (and this is what I was trying to put my finger on) one of my fave tracks from Spaghettification...like T-Power infused with sopors.

IMO, the Voda and Plaid mixes are worth the cost - then again, I LOVED the full length. Blisstastic.

Speaking of T-Power, I was really impressed with Spaghettification, the Coldcut and Sakamoto remixes, and "Body Lockers" especially. I can just imagine what this guy's jungle is like. Is any of T-Power's solo stuff still available? Does he plan on recording as T-Power again or is he just part of Chocolate Weasel now?

You can probably find Waveform if you look..it pops up on many a fs list. SETOAIM is much harder to track down and expensive (relatively anyway) when you do. I have 2 copies which I'll sell if someone wants them, but they won't be cheap (nor did I get them for cheap). jeff Moonlight wrote:

Strangely, I read an interview with Marc Royal somewhere, in which he said he basically tries to forget he ever made Waveforms - it happened when he was in a downphase of his life, that he's glad to have gotten past. imo he's BRILLIANT and I especially respect him for the complete changes of style he's capable of. I * np : Tekken (T Power mix) - *completely* different to, say, Mutant Jazz :-)

so has anyone heard the new T Power 12" on Botchit & Scarper? the a-side is this fucking killer, mid-tempo breaks track with seasick vocoded samples... apparently this is some of that "nu breaks" shit, and while i've heard that the genre is basically a crock, i've gotta say, this track is amazing. seems that certain drum and bass producers are beginning to slow it down a little more, mine the mid-tempo vein -- i'm curious to see where this might go. p --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I've always thought that breaks sound really cool below 140bpm. DR LX Patterson will play the occasional Drum&Bass 45 at 33, to get that effect. At 180bpm, breakbeats are pretty twitchy. At 132, the slower skank and lower pitch adds flavor. I've been making tracks like this for years. Nice to know there's a style pigeonhole for it finally. I've not heard the UK 'nu breaks' yet, but I imagine the cheese to caviar ratio is no better or worse than for any other genre. kent williams -- kent@avalon.net On Fri, 19 Nov 1999, Philip Sherburne wrote:
