As far as I know there's only one EP from Sahko Recordings (Finland): SAHKO-007 Panasonic Panasonic EP And I would _really_ like to hear about their Peel Sessions myself... Anyone? If you like Panasonic, you might also like to check Mika Vainio's (1/3 of Panasonic with Sami Salo and Ilpo Vaisanen) solo works as 0/ and Hertsi, very ultra-minimal stuff a la Panasonic. I'm afraid their availability may be very non-existent until Blast First puts the re-releases out - originally only 400-800 copies were pressed of the Sahko 12":s. Here's a few of them (O/ is actually written as an O with a slash through it, damn this US-ASCII! :)... SAHKO RECORDINGS: ---------------------- SAHKO-001 O/ Rontgen 12" EP January 1993 SAHKO-002 O/ Kvantti 12" EP March 1993 SAHKO-004 Hertsi Kohina 12" September 1993 SAHKO-005 Philus pH 12" EP December 1993 SAHKO-006 O/ Metri CD February 1994 TENSION RECORDS (Hollis NY, USA): ------------------------------------- Tekonivel Reuma EP TEN 3003 November 1994 Written & produced: Mika Vainio ? --- O/ Atomit (remixes) ? If you want have more information or a more complete version of this discography, please contact me (trerra@uta.fi). Let me also know if you want to read my Finnish scene reports in ASCII format, and I'll send them to you. The home page for Sahko is also in the plans, but I'll hope to get back to it sometime in the near future... ERkki everybody's talkin' trerra@uta.fi

I think this is coming out on Pi Recordings, a sub-label of T&B Vinyl from Twitch and Brainstorm. || [CiM] || s.walley@uea.ac.uk || http://www.sys.uea.ac.uk/~u9323899/

Has anyone picked up Mika Vainio's newest? I believe he's part of Panasonic, isn't he? Anyway, the release is under his O moniker and is out on Pi Recordings, which is a division of T&B Vinyl. It's quite stunning. Three incredibly sparse funky cuts on featureless black vinyl. All three tracks develop *so* subtly and have this brilliant cold emotionality to them. The third cut, 'Olematon', is the mack-daddy though. :) Downtempo, bass-heavy, haunted-house electro unlike anything you've ever heard. A worthwhile purchase to say the least. :) - Matthew "I grew up thinking that techno music is actually something that you can't imagine. That is techno at its best. If you hear something that you'd never expect to hear - that's techno. If you hear something that kind of sounds like you've heard it before, then it's not techno." - Jeff Mills

Thanks, that's the label, if we are talking about 'Atomit (remixes)' 12" now...

I always love these brief, laconic names Sahko's guys give to their records (Olematon = non-existent) :) Downtempo,

BTW, for all the Sahko lovers: I heard there's a new EP out, called 'Freestyle Man', more housier stuff than usually? Is there anyone who could tell more since I've only heard its name? Tomi, are you still on this list?

i can't agree more. this has been one of my favourite records this year. so simple, but so effective, and funky, which one wouldn't expect at all at first. i'm figuring a lot of ears are gonna start turning to this stuff soon. this stuff is pretty "out-there". has anyone heard the hertsi-kohina ep? this is as minimal as it gets. kind of reminds me of the more abstract industrial stuff from a while back. has anyone heard the new brainstorm release on t & b? some of it is not too bad. there is also somehting else even newer on this label called sound corps, or subjective sound corp. anyone know who this is? haven't heard this one yet. SO, is anyone taping the panasonic peel session? if so, i'd be very interested in getting a copy. on now: "atomit" david *+*

Yes, it looks like they are. I only caught the last track of their Peel- session, "Rockabilly", and it was absolutely marvellous stuff. However, judging from various reviews their output is characterized as "ultra-minimal". I don't think this description fits "Rockabilly" very much; it was a typical builder with very little variation in shape, but very much so - although subtle - in content. Is their Vakio CD anything like their Peel-session? Also, J. Peel said it was an augmented Panasonic. Exactly who were they augmented by? /Oivind Idso/
