Me thinks it's an important documentary on the "formative years" of IDM / ambient trance. It's got some real classics (Xtal) and a copule of throwaways. As all will no doubt tell you, it's 180 degrees different than SAWII. Is it groundbreaking now, no -- was it groundbreaking then, probably. Is it still very listenable and enjoyable now -- definitely. You can link to one of my excruciatingly long and boringly detailed reviews at http://www.xnet.com/~jjdavis/music.htm. peeeeeeeeeece, Jeff Davis <pHlow> ____--~~~~~~vvvv~~~~ oooooo 812.831.7846 jjdavis@xnet.com____---- ( ( ( vvvv ~~~~~~ooooooooooooo ___----( ( \ \ \ \ \ vvv oooooooooooooooooooooooooo ____---- ( \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ http://www.xnet.com/~jjdavis/

Fabulous introduction to the Aphex Twin stuff, and worth a few more listens after a couple of years. Vol. II is also a classic, but to fully understand it, you'll need to check out some of the Analogue Bubblebaths and the CLASSICS album on R&S. Vol. II is nothing like '85-92', it should have been called "Alberto Balsam:The Early Years"... Derek Jordan
