south of market ep 12" reflective (ref 011) (j.sharp/a.turner/e.handley) Of course you are all familiar with life's ups and downs. Well, as it goes I'm about three feet high and rising in bad news. I'll spare you the details but lets just say that emotional crash and burn was around every corner. Back in the day when the shit came crashing I used to reach for my _Innervisions_. A little Stevie could save my soul and pull me out of the pit stop. In my present state of crisis it's been an IDM tune (a sign of the times indeed ;) that's kept my efforts focused and lit the torch to lead me toward higher ground. (Are you with me?) I'm talking about Reflective music. South of Market. "Soon" composed by j.sharp, a.turner, and e.handley. WOOF! What a lineup! Is it just me, or does anyone else get excited about all this 'collaborating' our musicians have been doing? I catch myself thinking profoundly about using a few jazz super group allusions like, The Gifted Ones. Indeed these three IDM heavyweights jam out an anthemic 'feel good' IDM to the bone live one. "Soon" is given a foundation of ultra-progressive polyrhythms which are careful never to stray off the dance floor, rather trouncing around in the lumpy thumps of a kick drum gone mad. The stomping kicks are lifted up by the unmistakable Plaid N Plenty bent funky LFO acid honks and brilliant piano melody. Splash around a sunken processed vocal chorus with an emotional 'Wonder' hook and I'm too high. "Don't you worry 'bout a thing!" [4/5] Teep
