To all the composers out there. Just trying to tap this wonderful resource that is the IDM mailing list. I'm looking for a good page to find good drum samples. samplenet isn't what I'm looking for, I've d/l everything from music machines etrisine is dead and I've pretty much gotten everything from kalava. I really need to find bizzarre drum sounds, and maybe a few hip-hop sets just 'cause I like that groove style... I've tried creating stuff with drumsynth and stomper but it's still not quite what I'm looking for. Anyone know of any ftps of good sites that would help me with this??? Next, I'm wondering if anyone has purchased anything from Paia?? http://www.paia.com I'm looking into purchasing a vocoder and they seem like a good deal 'cause I'd like to learn about electronics, but I was wondering if anyone has purchased from them, and are they a good quality? As for programs... anyone had any experience with Granula or Amen?? Like what do they do and where can I d/l them from... from what I've heard, amen takes drum loops and rearranges the peaks, which would probably be a nice prog to have. And from what I read about granula, it makes everything sound like sand or clouds... if there are sounds like that.... I'm also looking for a computer based vocoder for the pc that records input to wav. orange vocoder is mac only and I haven't heard of anything else. Thanks again to all of the people that keep answering my q's... IDM list rocks. np: Two Lone Swordsmen: A Virus With Shoes (my fav release of 99). foambee@splink.com http://www.splink.com/punkrag/bzrec/ (my record label) http://www.splink.com/punkrag/crtrader/ (cdr/mp3 trading)

Why not actually sample them yourself? I mean the amen break wasn't downloaded from an ftp server. Someone had to find it and use it. i had some pretty good results recordring a drummer friend of mine playing some beats and then I ran them through some effects and loaded it into my sampler.

But...analogsamples.com is alright. I think if you are looking for 'weird' drum sounds you will have to make them yourself. I mean think about it for a second, what might sound weird to you might sound totally different to someone else. It's hard to explain what a weird drum sample really is. Shit, I have a Stockhausen recording for piano, percussion and synthesizer and that has some very unique sounds, but I wouldn't call them weird.

Yes! Paia is the bomb. I'm currently building one of their Theremins. A friend of mine build a tube amp from them and it sounds great. As far as the quality, they use very high quality components since they don't have to worry about the cost of assembling them. The quality of the finished unit is obviously up to you.

Vocoders are many and varied (actually, most telephone systems use a form of vocoding). Csound has some good vocoder algorithms. I have a program called sonicWORX Artist that has many vocoders. IRCAM's software division makes a vocoder.

It could be a granular synthesis program. That means it extracts the waveform data into small bands or 'grains' and rearranges them in a different order (as far as I know). Have fun. -Lee --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

If anyone could clue me in to a page that has drum samples from an actual set of drums, preferably broken up into seperate wavs for each hit, I'd be your best friend forever and ever. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
