i have had this since it was released and i STILL like it. despite the fact that it's woefully unhip, despite the fact that 99% of the songs are sampled from readily recognizable sources, despite the cliched chord progressions and tribal vocals, there's still something about it that i like. go figure. it's brain candy - not many positive qualities but still incredibly appealing. the 2nd intermix album had some moments but was largely a disappointment. i don't even want to touch the third one given what i've heard about it... -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://www.cyborganic.com/People/jsd

Brain candy, that's for sure. This record and FSOL's "Papau New Guinea" brought me into the IDM world; Intermix from the Skinny Puppy/FLA direction, and FSOL from the 4AD-L direction (due to the sampled vocals). I like all three. Cliched? Yes. Presets? Yes. Fun to listen to? YES!

Did anyone notice the samples from Recoil (Alan from Depeche Mode) on the second album? I haven't heard the new album yet. The telekinetic warriors 12" was OK. I've noticed Orbital, FSOL, and extensive use of the "Baraka" soundtrack. Bill and Rhys don't use the term "audio pirates" loosely.

My ears say Orb 'Ultraworld' beats pop up on a couple tracks on the first album. I've heard Rhys split recently. true? christian

This wouldn't surprise me. From what I understand, he was primarily interested in more of a FLA type sound. More like their latest stuff than Mindphaser and Mental Distortion, too, from what I heard. Which is, of course, hearsay :-) Later, -H-

The first Intermix record is still one of my all time favs. I still listen to it all the time. Suprisingly it doesn't sound dated at all...and holds up against newer stuff. The other 2 intermixs are pretty good but hte first is a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.
