Jay Majik - Jim Kutta/Needlepoint Majik (Metalheadz 13)
-------------------------------------------------------
It's actually getting tedious, the consistency in the quality of releases on
this label. I can't remember hearing a bad track - OK, some aren't as
outstanding as others, but in general Metalheadz stands head and shoulders above
most other labels. Anyway, 'Jim Kutta' is a magnificent cut which fuses ethnic
percussion, frantic but lighter breaks, gentle Rhodes chords and amazing jazz
guitar licks. A beautiful track, somewhere between mellow home-listening and
dancefloor abandon. 'Needlepoint Majik' is the weaker cut IMO, but that's only
because I'm not so into the darker stuff. Harder, with rumbling, grinding bass,
eerie strings and echoed vocals, this is another very well-produced track from
another rising star in the drum 'n' bass scene. (4/5)
