I've been sitting on this for a while now, but I just wanted to mention what I thought was one of the most impressive techno-label related releases of late.. The Kodat Cd (sorry, Cd only) on Source is ironically devoid of electronics, but I would argue that it delivers sonic variations that rival any recent excursions.. It's a rather lengthy recording of live treated piano, recorded direct to 2 track dat (as the cover boasts).. Seeing as "Eight Corners" by Gastr del Sol is ranking kinda high on my list of favorites, I jump at this one (not including the several days it took me to get over the idea of buying a Cd ;) ). The musicianship is striking and the amount of variation, be it smooth harmonics or sinewave percussion hits, as yet to loose my interest.. Though I'm the last person to shun sequencing, it's refreshing to hear something so deeply layered, knowing that it's entirely live.. Between this and the Kunstoff (spelling?) release, I think Source is proving that it's a label with a vision (not to mention all the great Robert Gordon, Jonah, etc. 12"s)... I wondering if there's any other takes on this stuff, because I keep getting so excited listening to it... Jamie (BUaaaRP!)
