Synchrojack EP (Ferox)
----------------------
The latest release on the Russ Gabriel's hotly-tipped young label. Five
tracks of superbly programmed, hard funky techno. The opener 'Cash Machines' is
the most obviously floor-aimed cut, and having heard Weatherall drop it last
night at 3AM, it certainly does the business. Not too repetitive for home
listening, though. The other two notable tracks are the superb Detroit-ish 'The
Circle', beautiful melodic techno, and the irresitibly funky, housier, disco
cut-up of 'End Of The Road'. Yet another fine British techno release from the
new school of producers.
Model 500 - The Flow remixes (R&S)
----------------------------------
Only the first 12" reviewed here. This has Atkins' own 'G-Funk mix', which is
pretty much as it sounds, a tad commercial for me. Underworld's mix is a typical
banging techno track, but nothing very exciting. The best of the three is the
Alex Reece mix, where the drum'n'bass man-of-the-moment employs his trademark
drum programming, sounding *very* much like 'Pulp Fiction', whilst fragments of
the original are chopped up to produce a typical minimal workout. Maybe worth
buying for the Reece mix, but overall nothing special.
See ya
