I thought that while taking a break from reviewing records, I'd start a
nice little music-genre war...
Lately there has been much criticism of Goa-influenced trance music, and
being an ardent fan of it, i'd like to know what beef other people have
about it? Mixmag's Reviews section totally blasts Juno Reactor's latest
"Beyond The Infinite" on Blue room, and Jockey Slut & Muzik both
lambasted "The Yellow/Orange Compilation" and "Outside The Reactor"
albums. I even saw a post from my favorite Dutch artist, Steffan
Robbers, criticising goa trance. Your thoughts, Steffan?
Yeah, I will agree with some tracks sounding the same, but goa trance is
"much" darker than your average eurotrance music these days(Jumpin' &
Pumpin', Rumour, and in some instances, even Harthouse!) The Dragonfly
Trance:Project 2 was one of the best comps of this genre, and still gets
frequent time on my decks when played for people. Juno Reactor's
TRANSMISSIONS album on NovaMute was quite pleasing, and a somewhat
refreshing change for the label, which at one time was hailing the
technofusion from Berlin & Detroit, and now I hear of the label dropping
them in the August issue of Muzik.
Any thoughts, flames or cuss-wars ARE accepted in this case!
