PHOOEY to ferenc who thinks techno is dead. ;) Here are some goodies I picked up last weekend. Cylob - Industrial Folk Songs (CAT015 Rephlex) My ears are still ringing (rrrrrrrrrrr). I know it's going to take some time to digest this one. I like it but I don't know why just yet. I think my brain is still recovering from the initial shock. This one is more noisy than Kinesthesia Vol1 and J9 put together but done in a very interesting way. If you can handle the experimentation then it's a must. The Gentle People - Journey Remixes (CAT040R Rephlex) MUCH better than the original. It's another from the softer side of Rephlex. If you ask me the original was a waste of time but the poster is worth it (fondue!). This is digestable Rephlex but the die hard Rephlex fan might find it a bore. Mike Dred - Code C (??? Machine Codes) I WANT MORE!!! Mike Dred continues to put out better and better tracks. Mike Dred is to acid music as Luke Vibert is to jungle. I read about the Machine Codes label in the Rephlex Web pages but this is the first I own. If anyone can help me with a discography then I'll personally mail them some blotter (hmmm). I think this is my top purchase this week. Plug 1 (you know the score) I know there are many reviews out there about this but I thought I'd give my input. GET IT!!! If you don't own this record or you think you don't like jungle then YOU ARE MISSING OUT! I got teeth marks on the vinyl from my jaw dropping on the turntable upon first listen. Now where the hell am I going to find Plug2? Beverly Hills 808303 - Six Pack (12" picture disk from Reference?) I was supposed to be getting the double 7" picture disk pack from Acid Planet but I hear Richard Hester beat me to the punch (grrr). I like this one though. It's another mad acid frenzy from those Bunker freaks. Keep 'em coming and I won't have any money for food! PA Presents - Entangled (DV8-007 Deviate) The Human Being's label continues to release some of the most sophisticated music on the planet. I thought Ice Age was my favorite Deviate record but this one is putting up a strong fight for first. More listens will determine the winner and I'll be happy playing it over and over to decide. The Human Beings - For The Time Being Part3 (DV8-008 Deviate) Not as strong as PA Presents but it found it's way in my bag when a limited budget was staring me in the eye. It wasn't until later that I realized that this may be the third twelve inch in a four part series. I saw some others in the store but thought they were the same 12" I hope I can find the others. I wouldn't want to miss anything on this label. Random XS - Encounter (DJAX-UP-212 DJAX Up Beats) A double dark blue acid wonder from Zero Zone. I haven't given this a hard listen but I don't ever doubt RandomXS releases. Acid Junkies - Paranoid Experience (DJAX-UP-192 DJAX Up Bears) A double full length from the twisted minds of Robbers and Kinderen. This is fun acid! If you like your acid strait up with a twist then pick d:yit up. I can't think of any artist that is more in tune with the original feel of the old Chicago acid sound. Rolleiflex (MP10 Mile Plateaux) Kahn and Walker bring you this double vinyl. One 12" is a picture disk and the other is silver vinyl. I haven't heard anyhing more experimental than this exept for possibly Vulva's From the Cockpit. It's weird, strange, beautiful, and eerie all at the same time. It's really too bad that I missed the Robot Wars after party here in San Francisco. I wish I'd have known. Now I wonder if Kahn and Ingmar played or if Cem was there. I've heard rumours that Cem has left Air Liquide to persue other things. It might be so with Jammin Unit on Rising High these days... (isn't techno gossip the best?) Well that's it for now. I hope ferenc doesn't miss out on all this good techno coming out. It's great when techno is dead. The music gets so good when it's dead like that. Many kudos to Allert and Stefan and possibly others who might be lurking out there and are involved in providing these wonderful releases. Music is the key! -robert --> __ _ _ _____ _____ _____ / _\ | || || _ \|_ _|/ _ \ / /_\\ | -- || |_) | _| |_ | (_) | ______________ /______\\____/|_____/|_____|\_____/ ( *electronic* )
