Contrary to what several people have written about Slazenger, it is quite an amazing disc. The sound is big and brash, and it's got polyrhythms to spare. It's got the noises that some call cheezy, but Mr. Paradinas seems to enjoy. I like 'em too. I am eagerly aniticipating the deluge of more of this 'fodder' that seems to be imminently approaching. I think "cheezy" works for a lot of people that might find "Burnt Sienna" just a tad bit obnoxious. _Makesaracket_ has all the crossover potential in the world - even some of my less IDM-oriented coworkers have been bouncing around to "Megaphonk". It's going to be a good autumn for music fans. As much as I respect the opinions of the naysayers on Makesaracket, I have to say this may be the disk of the year for me so far.

My great-aunt Idonna, who lives in Arcadia, used to have a Poodle called Gigi, and whose stereo came with a set of Longines Symphonette records, has a wicked collection of bongo, cha cha, and hawaiian cheese disks. One summer I was stuck at her house and worked through them. That stuff is the source material for a whole movement of nouvo-cocktail music from groups like Combustible Edison here in the US, and it appears that Mr. Mike has dipped into that motherlode of weirdness for this disk. That goofy organ intro to Megaphonk? imagine hearing it in an Orange County topless bar, where my Aunt Alice, her of the lime green stretch pants and Karen Carpenter fixation, played cocktail jazz for years. I guess what appeals to me about it is that in some weird, disgusting way, this Velveeta Iceberg is the roots music that turned me into a teenage drug addict, and I can't help but love it.

It sounds like MP has made the rounds with his shoebox of DATS, and wants to flood the market. Good on 'im. -- "I AM PROBABLY THE LAMEST CHARACTER EVER KNOWN TO MANKIND, THE HUMAN RACE, OR THE WORLD IN GENERAL.
