I am surprised more has not been made of RDJ's _Makes a Racket_ input. "Gary's Birthday" is rather good. Jake's Clear debut release surprised me - James S's early review had led me to believe it was pretty wacky - far from it, it's all totally natural, raw Paradinas energy - nothing's *that* odd about it. Beats beats beats, with building Paradinas melody things and noises. Essential. Get Up R is for some reason my favorite. [Glad everyone liked Donkey Rhubarb (why do I keep calling it Donkey Kong?). Title track is good, but _Pancake Lizard_ is better. Dunno why people are whining about the Glass track. What did they expect? I really like it, showing what orchestra's can do (that sounds trite), 's got a really big sound and just wrings out an extra ounce of emotion.] greg The WARP Web Site 3 0 3 http://www.ncl.ac.uk/~n264671/wap-indx.html

I saw Jake Slazenger at Pure's 5th Birthday in Glasgow on Saturday and he was superb. It was still just him, and his mouse, behind whatever computer he was using, but at least 700 people must have been grooving away. I got "Makesaracket" on Sunday, and was so pleased that the album opened with Megaphonk - this sounded glorious in the Barrowlands. I can't pick out what else he played, but I'm sure he slipped in a jungle track which isn't on the album - or was he just messing with the beat? I don't know. Speedy J also played "live", and Derrick May DJed - the best night at Pure so far. Rob.

Am I the only person in this site who doesn't like Pancake Lizard? I find it slow, bland and boring.... I really prefer the title track and Vaz Deferenz....and the Glass track is growing on me....
