I can't remember anyone comprehensively reviewing this, and well, sorry,
but I ain't got the energy... maybe Derek Oliver will... thanks D!
It is a monster (four 33rpm 12"s - colored vinyl - high quality pressing -
thick sleeves) and has the likes of, well, (recalling), Sun Electric
("Northern Lights #5" - different version than that live release),
Fehlmann (pretty good one), Higher Intelligence Agency (good,
...identifiable 30 sec into it), Ebi (intense, refreshing), Pete Namlook
(hasn't done much for me yet), Hertsi (sp?) (great! I'd like to know
more about other releases!), Deep Space Network (great one too! so-so
name, good build/breakdown work - good rhythms), uh, lessee, oh yeah, Air
Liquide (pretty much like Nephology stuff, though I'm tired of most
303/909 stuff, they did a little trick with the few-note 303 line that
makes for a deceptively arhythmic 303-whooOOP-droning...I'm still waiting
for a more original 'sound' to emerge from Air Liquide in the
future...hohum), Plastikman ("Gak Remix" yet another subtle twist --
heap it on the "500 Interesting Eccentricities You Can Get From A
202/101" pile -- number it "501"... He definitely knows those boxes.)
Oh, it opens with a little 30 sec pitch-shifted-echoey talk that sounds
like an excerpt from an interview. The harmonics/eq'ing is such that even
after several listennings, I can't assemble the words, yet it is clear
enough that I might recognize the voice... that's weird... hmmm...
Sorry I can't remember the other folks on this comp off the toppa my
head; I'm instead thinking about how I'm gonna try to integrate a borrowed
727 into a track I'm working on... gotta tweak those timbales!
