APHEX TWIN IN TORONTO, CANADA ----------------------------- Either I'm the only Aphex Twin fan in Toronto, or the only Aphex Twin fan who was satisfied by yesterday's concert. It was unfortunately only a single 1 hour dj set. There were no lights, and he just sat on stage in the dark, fiddling with records and twittling knobs. Fortunately, after the beginning (consisting of detroit style techno) he started getting into the harder and more aggressive idm. Much of it sounded vaguely familiar in similar RDJ style. A lot of it may have been some of his extensive unreleased material (or so the rumour goes). Unfortunately, due to the error of the management at the Warehouse (where the show took place) the soundmixing was terrible. It was too quite, and the bass was too quiet. Aside from miscellaneous ravers, and a few goths, the place was packed with 12 year old bjork fans, and shitty guys with too much attitude. Like previous concerts, during RDJ's set, most people just stood there motionless, not quite sure what do say or do... and at the end of his set, everybody was motioning to get him off the stage. A truely disappointing reaction, but what can you expect? Fortunately, to piss the little shits off, I spent the entire set violently dancing infront of the right side of the stage, with a few Skinny Puppy fans. The surrounding people were scared of us (acid freaks!) and backed away giving us a nice space. But other than that moment, and RDJ's set, I wasn't too happy with the concert. I'm not really a fan of Bjork (as a matter of fact, I haven't even really heard anything she's ever done, aside from her guest appearance on the 808 State album) but it wasn't that bad a night. Any possibility of a REAL RDJ tour soon? I want to see him play live! Anybody see a guy screaming "FUCK WITH MY MIND RICHARD" at the show last night? That was me! The white guy with the afro. Concert rating 7/10 Blister rating 9/10 (when I got home, my feet looked like chopped liver, lots of dancing!) Wish RDJ the best of luck for a better audience in the rest of his tour. __________/\_________________________________________________________ (XXXXXXXXX( <________________________________________________________/ \/ ____ __,---' `--.__ ,-' ; `. It seems bad planning/promoting/whatever to set up a tour with two artists with such vastly different audiences (tho this happens all the time, I suppose). I'm surprised RDJ agreed to do it, given his dislike of performing live (or so I've read). Perhaps there were contractual obligations he had to fulfill.
