I've always thought that DJ top-ten lists were more of the nature of DJ "LOOK WHAT I GOT!!!" lists. I've never been able to find 90% of the stuff the majority of them list. What good is it if you can't buy it anyway? IDM lists have always been more useful.

I agree, you always get frustrated from reading the lists of the stuff you can't get anywhere, especially if you live in a God-forsaken place like Finland (yeah, I know I'm exaggerating, but...). OK, it's always nice to get any tips, so considering that I'm _not_ against people sending those lists. But I guess it's the envy, healthy (?) competitive spirit and "I have, you don't" attitudes that make the civilized Western world go round ;) ERkki Tampere, pHinland trerra@uta.fi

the DJ's job is to be a expert, to know the best of what's out there and to let you know what the best stuff is which you wouldn't hear of otherwise. obviously, if they take it too far - e.g., "go buy the unreleased demo CD by Luke Vibert's 3d-cousin-twice-removed Herbert Vibert, of which there were only 23 copies made, and buy it RIGHT NOW 'cause it's fucking brilliant!!!" - that's pretty stupid. but, for the most part, discussion on this list tends to focus on a particular set of names, and I like it when DJs inject obscure noise into the signal. imho. giles bowkett - gibo@ripco.com http://pages.ripco.com:8080/~gibo/gibo.html "I'm not an elected official, but I play one on TV" - Ronald Reagan

So if I understand you, the ultimate list would provide: 1) Nice tips which you could always count on, from a very established source. 2) A lead time over commercial/general release that would make even the most well-connected trainspotter envious (in a teasing, foreplay , waiting with baited breath kind of way) 3) No attitude, just peace & love. Sarcasm noticed, Jeff. It's just a pity you don't have to live here where I live, where the distribution of the more "difficult" stuff just sucks. And no, I don't think being all for peace and love means you shouldn't have an "attitude" - even if for some the attitude must mean spending all their time making petty and snide remarks to show people how clever and smart homies they actually are... Sorry if I've just misunderstood - no actual intention to flame, though I'm feeling a bit pissed at the moment. And what the hell Morris has to do with this...? I guess he must have done a _lot more_ for this scene than most of us subscribing to this list ever have - so if I were you I'd just think twice before I'd start slagging people off without my better knowledge. Anyway, PEACE! (And I mean it, buster! :) --- Jeff Davis wrote:
