This may be a wank-job of a thread to start but I'm interested in compiling a mix tape of the melodic side of aphex twin for friends with delicate ears. So far I consider Ventolin (Probus mix) Polynomial in C Alberto Balsam On in that category. Suggestions? -- In an argument, it's useful to know if your opponent is just ignorant, or willfully and sincerely full of shit. -- Aristotle's Rhetoric (paraphrased). kent.williams@cadsi.com [Kent Williams/CADSI/2651 Crosspark Rd/Coralville IA 52241/(319)626-6700]

Analogue Bubblebath, the track There's at least one somewhere on J4,J5 Surely quite a lot of SAW I? Sure! "Xtal" for starters - both beat driven and melodic, and one of my faves. Also, I don't think you can go wrong with "Pulsewidth", "Ageispolis", and "Heliospahn", all from SAW I. These may not be ambient per se, but they're definitely melodic! Why not include Didgeridoo ? Or one of the shorter tracks of Selected II ?

I once made a really ambient, dreamy, sleep inducing tape for a friend, and on the end of the first side recorded 30 seconds of extremefuckedupnoise horror at really high volume to freak him out. It worked! (I think it was a filler piece off a Mercury Rev lp). So my choice would be 73 yips/spotlight or someit like that, but then I'm a sick (+useless) individual. later j Oninmyheadwithevilgrin: John Zorn-Torture Garden
