What!? are you kidding me? I think m-plant's at an all time high.
The memory foundation is excellent, and is hardly "retrogressive" in nature,
just not as fringe/experimentalist, which is the line Rob Hood skirts so
well (a la Movable Parts). Just because Hood's name isn't on that m-plant
release doesn't mean it's regressing... obviously he must think it was
pretty good himself to put it on his own (highly respected) label.
Speaking of Hood, I wanted to take this opportunity to say how much
I like Felix Da Housekat's 2x12" on (guess what - his label) Radikal Fear.
Called Metropolis Present Day. And THERE's AN INCREDIBLE ROB HOOD REMIX
of one the tracks on there. I know Felix has been somewhat hit-or-miss in
the past (I disliked the APROHEAD records, on Golbal Cuts, for example...
but on the other hand Hawtin played them a lot) but this Felix LP smokes!
I mean I really really like it. House done with the knowledge and
experience that Felix has gained from all the production and great people
he has worked with in his Chicago and European past. Never boring. If you
liked the deepness and touch-of-acid in the DJ SNEAK "on the sneak tip EP"
that was on Radical Fear, you will definitely like this. There are some
very smooth _sexy_ deep house tracks, some harder more experimental/punchy
house, techno/house with acid tweaks, and even one Rob Hood remix (!) -- a
totally versitile and useful record. And he has succeeded in making it
sound like a full length release, too, not just 12 unrelated tracks as so
many others are guilty of.
As an added bonus, the first track is a short and beautiful
ambient/piano intro (carefully marked "for listening only" on the jacket,
hehh hehh, just in case you wanted to mix with it Felix says NOPE). And
the last track is just his own voice thanking about 50 or so people that
helped/supported him get where he is today, and that name list reads like a
history of worldwide house and techno to this date... cool.
anyway, sorry I got off the Rob Hood topic a bit, but anyway Hood's remix
of that Felix track is a winner, and I don't notice Rob Hood doing a lot of
remixes for just ANYBODY.
peace
p.s. - what's up with Felix's (techno?) label called "Blak Label" or
something like that?
