You must not be on the Vangelis list. There's a bootleg of the OST coming out this week -- Footlight Records in NYC expect it Thursday or Friday. It's *allegedly* direct from the master tapes and runs 70+minutes...well, we'll see. But you'd better get an order in quick, Footlight have just about sold out their preorder of 200 copies already. -- Lazlo (lazlo@unm.edu)

I assume you mean the new Vangelis album "Blade Runner", which is on Atlantic in the U.S. (not Sony) and which isn't the "complete soundtrack" by any stretch of the imagination. They don't even bother to call it a soundtrack on the packaging. The OWM-9301 bootleg can still be had, for a price. A friend of mine scared up a copy a couple of weeks ago though the Internet Music Wantlists and ended up paying around $90 if I remember right. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@rt66.com) ::: Illuminating the net with a compelling combination of ::: incontrovertible fact and meaningless bitching since 1984

I bought the '94 version of Vangelis' Blade Runner sountrack and was disappointed that it did not contain the full opening music from the film. I wanted the really quiet bit that had a really echoey single drum noise and then a soft keyboard playing the main theme music before opening into the version on the CD I have. Does anyone own the original sountrack? Does it have this bit of the music? Thanks in advance, -Ed

As far as I know this was the first ever release of the soundtrack in album form. There is an old orchestral arrangement of the tracks available but I'm sure that's not what you want. PS is this IDM? J ^ James Skilton aka Steady J - steady-j@firefox.co.uk

I understand that there was a bootleg out there of the Vangelis soundtrak about a year before the label release and it had stuff on it that got cut (like why not use the space if it;s there?> I don't have it but it was mentioned on one of the bladerunner home pages-- I can get the URL it's not in front of me. There's no legit "original soundtrack". The OWM-9301 bootleg has the opening score you mention, but the sound quality isn't the best and the disc would probably set you back $100 or more if you could find it at all (and no, I can't help you get it -- try the Internet Music Wantlists). -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/~lazlo) ::: NOTE NEW ADDRESSES! ^^^^^^ The little twiddle in my URL is important...

Are you sure about that? Take a close look at the scene where he discovers some of the 'fake memory' photographs of the replicants' are the same ones which he himself has in his home. The problem in that logic is that Sean Young's character is the only one with a fake memory- the others know that they are replicants and haven't been alive very long and won't live much longer. -- forel elitist fuck --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Even so, that wouldn't present a problem with the logic at all...it would only place him in a similar category as Sean Young's character. Note the scenes where Deckard is asked if he himself has ever taken the test. The movie inverts the theme of the book to arrive at a similar conclusion; the book illumines the difference between humanity and androids while the movie plays on the commonality. In the former, Deckard discovers his humanity via the difference - in the latter, he arrives there through the commonality. Phillip K. Dick, who at first did not like the movie at all, later came to this appreciation of the film. Ridley Scott has also stated that in "Blade Runner", Deckard was indeed and android. One of the edited scenes of the film features Deckard cutting himself and finding gears. There are 3 main cuts of "Blade Runner" and probably 7 versions of it floating around. jeff At 07:42 AM 2/24/2002, forel wrote:

And doesn't the Edward James Olmos character make a unicorn and leave it on a table for him to see... combine that with the addition in the director's cut of his dream of the unicorn.. i dunno, I thought the director's cut was almost too heavy about it. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Dick died the same year the movie had official release, but was privy (of course) to the details of it from early in its inception. His remarks about the movie to which I alluded took place shortly before his death...I can't recall if they were contained in an interview or a letter. My own source for this information is Dr. Kenneth Jurkievich, Prof. of Film Studies at CMU in Michigan (having recently done a class with him as part of my MA in Interdisciplinary Humanities). jeff At 09:45 AM 2/24/2002, Aaron D Meyers wrote:
