Hi! Concidering at least two issues have been released, there has been very little (none, actually) talk of the new UK techno/dance magazine MUZIK in this mailing-list. (Or have I been browsing too fast through the digests?) Has anyone read it? Is it good? Is it worth subscribing to? I dunno but I'd like any US subscription info (it they're even doing that) -- I was frustrated to find that the email address for their "letters to editor" section or whatever seemed like a dud, kept getting all my attempts to contact them bounced stright back at me. Are these guys wired or what? And now for the bold statement: if your going to cover the "music of the future" then you better have a firm grip on how to communicate in it. peace, Matt MacQueen <macqueen@student.msu.edu> on now: Sueno Latino, 1989.

I have both the first 2 issues, as they were good value at only 95p, though some of the articles were pretty trashy (one about DJ "groupies" in ish 1 springs to mind. A bit of humour here and there, especially a spoof scoop photo of Maurizio, but dreadful puns used on all photographs, and don't expect its coverage to be centred anywhere other than clubbing, though with possibly a wider spread than DJ/Mixmag. Next issue has a R&S tape to soften the blow of the price going up to 2 quid or so. Personally I think Jockey Slut is doing a better job of covering the more "underground" techno and idm side of things, and I've only read 3 issues of that. They are probably the best overall at the moment for me. Even Generator has got a bit mainstream of late. I also picked up a copy of M8, the first time its been widely available outside boonie Scotland. I probably won't bother again as its 90% happy hardcore/raving/etc, but it contains the first article I've seen in a UK mag about Sahko, which was a nice surprise. the first issue of muzak was a real disappointment. the second issue was alot better. alot more articles and reviews but there are still lots that annoy like the pathetic humour. it is a better read than dj which has gone so far down the pan i see no escape. mixmag has improved slightly recently with the odd interesting article. all three are worth a read in whsmiths but i wouldn't recommend paying cash for them...

on the other hand, a different kettle of fish and more my cup of tea, jockey slut is the bees knees. loads of interesting articles on subjects not covered by the mainstream glossies. buy it.

the spirit of 92 but with dodgy eckies and wibbly wobbly people on the jellies. avoid. if you fancy some serious piss-taking with your clubby print then check out herb garden.# sorry for the anglocentric nature of this message. later matt ------------------------------ matt isxmcd@evn1.nott.ac.uk ------------------------------ purveyor of mad lifted beats ------------------------------
