If you mean Basic Data Manipulation Vol. 2, it's awesome. Being heavily out of the scene for the most part, it's hard for me to make comparisons, but I'd say it's similar to Reload's _A Collection of Short Stories_, but perhaps better. No vocals or weird samples, just basic data manipulation, as it were. Please to let someone with bigger knowledge on music reviewing hear this CD with open ears for to make review in written for IDM list... Dave, Choosy mother who has decided against choosing Jif

The Beaumont Hannant 'Texturology' CD is a fantastic release, IMHO. Varying styles and tempos produce a fine and intoxicating disc. I was lucky enough to grab a copy of it on CD in the stylish textured fold-out case, and I have not regretted it one bit. There are two vinyl versions - one is the same as the CD, the other is *completely* different. Can anyone give me a definite answer as to whether both versions of this are available on vinyl, or only the limited edition version.....? I've been seeing conflicting reports on this list.....

I think I've got my answer now from more recent posts to this list. The answer seems to be 'yes', so I'll have to track down the non-limited vinyl verion... thanks, cosmic

From the Melody Maker review: "'Textrology' comes in two versions - a 72-minute CD lavishly packaged with intricate foldings, inserts nd a tactile lumpy bumpy cover, and a double LP in similarly gorgeous covering that contains another hour or so of entirely different music. And there's another LP planned for the autumn." From that review it seems like the CD tracks are not available on vinyl, and vice-versa. Anyone have a different take on things? Matt

I have definitely seen BOTH vinyl versions. The ltd edition packaging is a slightly paler blue color than the standard one, which is the same color as the CD. -- Mark Turner mturner@netcom.com

The answer is most definitely "yes", because when I bought my copies of the LP and CD, both versions of the LP were there. The covers are fairly distinguishable; the CD and non-limited LP use black with white lettering on the front and back, whereas the limited LP uses Exorcist puke green :-) - Greg

several = 2. The standard LP is available on CD and Vinyl, but there is an additional "special" vinyl-only release with completely different track listing. The sleeve design is basically the same, but slightly "metallic" to look at. The tracks are a bit "harder", more technoey overall I think. btw this stuffs been out for months in the UK ... was it not imported to the US at the time? It's too long since I listened to either version... J ^ James Skilton aka Steady J - jamess@firefox.co.uk

Anyone know what Beaumont Hannant is up to at the moment - any new release imminent? Texturology is one of the finest pieces of IDM I own, but Sculptured was disappointing (to me). The only other readily-available album I know of is Basic Data Manipulation (did I get that right?)- how does that compare to either of the other two I mentioned? Any opinions / reviews welcomed. Incidentally, I just read the sleeve notes to Texturology and in the 'Thanks to' section it includes Mark Franklin, of AI2/'Release to the System' fame, whom I asked about last week. Yes right title. It's also titled Tastes and Textures volume 2. Mmm I can hardly remember what it sounds like! But I was impressed enough to buy it back at the time. Did you get the recent Psi-Onyx double-twelve, remixes of a track from T&T Volume 1?

Yeah must be, Hannant has worked with Autechre on a number of occasions (Basscadet Remixes, Psi-Onyx remix), and these guys all seem to be cronies. My first impression was of RDJ. Distorted beats, nice little tune going on over the top. I love it. I've been making a few compilations for people recently, good idm (or at least idm that I like :-) ), and Hannant always manages to find himself a space somewhere. I think I paid 6.99 for the CD (Our Price sales - dontcha jus luv 'em?), but it's definitely worth more. OBnon-idm: But then I also like "The Second Coming" :-) Rob.

I have a single called "Psi-Onyx" with three mixes, one by Autechre. The liner says "original version ... appears on GENP[X]14 only" (a catalog number, apparently).
