Hi, Three questions: What do people consider the best Authechre release? I only have the Bass Cadet EP but want some more. Which should I go for? - I'd prefer something interesting but not too noisy... Something I can groove to :) Similarly, what's a good Richard H Kirk album to get? Virtual State? Lastly, has Mark Franklin released anything other than 'Release to the System' on AI2? That is such a gorgeous track. Ta, Paddy ;;, | Paddy Grove, \\ .;(((((c. Mmm maybe I shouldn't answer, as I think all there stuff is brilliant, however all of it is interesting, and very rarely could you call them "noisy" Incunabula is generally perhaps more percussive than Amber, but a little rougher round the edges soundwise (not saying that as a bad thing, just that Amber is as smooth and rounded as a velvet bag full of peaches. Just watch out for the stones.) I really don't think you could go wrong with either. On the EP front, Garbage is very laidback, starting with mellow electro and finishing up pure ambient, while Anti is 3 very upbeat tracks, but Flutter in particular is beautiful and charming as well as pumping those bassbins.

Yes. But everyone seems to be enthusing massively about the new one. I should be getting it this weekend. These are the only LPs RHK has released on WARP, plus the Sweet Exorcist "Clonks" experiment, which I would hesitate to recommend anyone to buy without listening, I love it, but its damn weird.

I believe he's working with the Gescom crew on some new material(possibly a Gescom comp?) Derek Jordan

Hey Paddy: Definately gotta git "Amber" AND "Garbage". I've never been a fan of "Incanabula". That CD just sounds really dated to me. Autechre were just getting their feet wet with that release. The above mentioned 2 are proof of Autechre's mastery of their style: Slow-to-build layering of sounds and minimal grooves that exposes a subtle and underlying funk. (or something like that :)) Also, "Virtual State" is great, but get both of his SANDOZ releases first. The second CD (actually the 3rd SANDOZ release), you might appreciate more: "Intensely Radioactive" Hope this helps! +++++++ John A. jknee@gwis2.circ.gwu.edu Rickman +++++++ On Thu, 29 Jun 1995, Paddy Grove wrote:
