You have to applaud Wax Trax/TVT for their release of the new Kirk LP.
For the first time since the WARP/WAX TRAX/TVT deal there was a
simultaneous release in the states and overseas! Hope they can do this
more often to save IDM buyers from import prices! By the way, "The
Number of Magic" is excellent! It's have the ethnic sound of Kirk's
Sandoz projects and the electronics of Cab Vo circa "the Conversion."
Beautiful.
I also picked up The new Single Cell Orchestra full lenght "Dead Vent
7." Fantastic! Kind of a mix between the newer Depth Cargge and
Reload's "Collection of Short Stories." Dark ambi techno laden with
sci-fi vocal samples. Really cool.
The verdict is still out for the new Locust LP. But one thing's for
sure, this release gets my vote for worst album title, worst song
titles and worst design of the year! Album Title: The Truth Is Born of
Arguments. But it gets worst: Song Titles: The Truth is Born of
Arguments, Penetration, I Feel Cold Inside Because of the Things You
Say, Saturated Love When We Coincide, I Believe in a Love I May Never
Know, The Optimist, I Become Overwhelmed, I Am Afraid of Who I Am,
Inside I Am Crying, and The Love You Gave Me Would Not Last. These are
the actual titles! Ugh!
The new Innersphere CD5 on the Saberettes label is pretty good also.
"Out of Body," contains four mixes and a radio edit. Remixer include
The Orb, Sabres of Paradise and someone names David Hedger(?).
Finally, there's two cool comps I bought recently I've been spinning
non-stop: "Freezone 2 - variations on a chill" and "Abstract
Expressionism Chapter 1." Both of these are, for the most part, in the
acid jazz, trip hop, dub vein but there's enough tasty techno bits here
and there to keep all appetites happy. Standout artists on Freezone 2
are are Nuron, 4 Hero, D*Note, Move D and More Rockers Association.
Standout artists in Abstract Expressionism are Warp 69/Gobal Comm,
Kohato, Juan Atkins, Red Snapper and Hookian Mindz.
Although my wallet is now dreadfully empty, I quite happy with this
week's purchases!
