Astralwerks Press Release June 17, 1995 Skylab: Astralwerks has licensed the (beyond trip-hop) collective known as Skylab from the London-based L'Attitude label. Their debut album, "#1" , will be released on September 5. Matt Ducasse, self proclaimed "sound freak", serves as Skylab's commander with co-producers Howie B. (noted Mo' Wax artist) and Tosh & Kudo of Major Force Records fame. Skylab has been described by Melody Maker as "...an opium-laced melange of Deee-lite, Portishead and St. Etienne's more elegant moments." The album will be preceded by an August 8 release of a 12" with a Dom T. remix of "Exotika" backed with "Indigo" (Sabres Of Paradise Remix) and "Seashell" (DJ Takemura Remix). Ben Neill: Green Machine, the debut Astralwerks by noted trumpet player Ben Neill will be released September 5. Since 1981, Neill has won international acclaim for his work with the 'mutantrumpet', a device he first developed with the aid of the prestigious Steim studios in Amsterdam. The 'mutantrumpet' is an extraordinary instrument that has multiple bells and valves, which can be used for conventional trumpet playing or for directing signals to MIDI hook-ups to create huge banks of synthesized tones. It is this ability to combine traditional acoustic performance with other-worldly analog/digital landscapes that has drawn Ben into the world of ambient exploration. He is currently the musical curator of The Kitchen, NYC's premier performance space for new art, dance and music. Green Machine will be preceded by the "Sistrum" 12" featuring remixes by San Francisco's Single Cell Orchestra and New York's DJ Spooky Tha Subliminal Kid. Chemical Brothers: The duo formerly known as The Dust Brothers are currently tearing up the U.K. dance charts with their first single, "Leave Home", under their new moniker. They are gearing up for a series of European festival dates and are looking forward to U.S. and Japanese dates in the fall. The U.S. release dates for both their next single "Life Is Sweet" (with mixes by The Chemical Brothers and French producer Daft Punk) and the Exit Planet Dust album have been set for August 22. smart decision. this album is great! probably my favourit album of 1994. since this wasn't very easy to get (and i haven't heard of any re-release). it'll probably sell well with lots going overseas. one thing though. exotica isn't on the album. is the us version going to be different (ie. extra tracks?)?

While this is all well and good, I must say that 'Chemical Brothers' has got to be the silliest name I have ever heard. If they were forced, as they were, to come up wit a new name, why could they not be a little more creative? It isnt as if the entire world knew them as 'The Dust Brothers' so it isnt as though they needed to keep it similar so as not to lose any fans. Sorry...I have had that on my mind a long time. We should remember that one of their much-sought after early releases was entitled "Chemical Beats". And they did say in "Muzik" that they were just 2 lads out for a good time. Why hide it? Rob.

i read recently in an interview with them that even they think their name is crap, and was very hastily created due to imminent sue-age (hehehe ;D) mikebee

Does this mean ANOTHER name change? Incidentally, I heard a Fluke track on "The Zone", Annie Nightingale's show (Radio 1) which she described as classical trip-hop. She was playing a version remixed by the Dust Brothers, which she assumed was the Americans, because the Brits are now the Chemical Bros. Was she barking up the wrong tree? Isn't it more likely that the remix was by the Chemical Bros., and just pressed up ages ago? Rob.

Maybe they could have gone with some sort of zany symbol, and we could refer to them as "the artists formerly known as the dust bros." jay ______________________________________________________________________________ Jason W. album Succour? Or should I just pay $25 for the import? Are you ever going to release ANYTHING new from Seefeel or have they been dropped?<< We licensed the Seefeel recordings from Too Pure records in London. The band have since signed and released albums on Warp. Warp have done a licensing deal with East-West (part of the WEA family in the U.S.). Word is that "Succor" will be released by them at some point. Brian
